step 1 :Removing the Tailgate Cable
- Open the tailgate
- Remove the higher tailgate cable
- Loosen the T40 bolt on the bottom side
- Remove the tailgate cable

step 2 :Installing the Tailgate Cable
- Insert the cable into the tailgate
- Tighten the T40 Torx bolt to the tailgate cable
- Reinstall the cable

Here are the items you'll need for this repair: T-40 Torx socket, ratchet
Open your tailgate. If you have a broken cable, you'll want with that one, but where both of ours are good, we'll simply lift up and remove one side. Using a T40 Torx socket and a ratchet, remove the bolt on the bottom side of the tailgate cable.
Now our cable is fine so we're going to reinstall it, but this would be the same for a new one. Line up the tab on the washer with the slot in the tailgate and reinstall the T40 Torx bolt. Lift up slightly and reinstall your cable. If you're replacing both cables, simply repeat these steps on the opposite side.
