Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to the service the tail lights. This is a 2009 Pontiac Torrent, it's the same procedure for any Torrent. We're going to show you how to service the bulbs, as well as change the whole tail light assembly if you've broken it.

Start up by opening the rear hatch to which ever light you need to service. Then there are two little caps, you use a small flat blade screwdriver and you pry the bottom of the cap and it comes off. Those expose two 10mm bolts, and you can use a 10mm socket and ratchet, or you could actually use a large Phillips screwdriver. Really, the 10mm socket and ratchet's the easiest way to do it. Fast-forward as I take off the second one. Then you pull out to the side to release the clips on the light.

Then, if you want to release the light from the harness, there's a tab that's on the bottom. You're going to see it, I'm going to flip the light over to better access that tab. Now it's on the top as you're looking at it. Press the tab, pull the harness out. Then, to service each bulb, you just twist counterclockwise about a 1/4 or a 1/8 to a 1/4 of a turn. You'll be able to pull the bulb out, and then you can pull the bulb from the socket. I'll show you on this one, just pull straight out. New bulb goes back it, and it's the same for all of those, and it's also the same for both side marker bulbs that you would do the same way.

If you need to replace the entire taillight assembly, and you need to retain your stock wiring harness, then remove all the bulbs, and the harness is in a couple clips. The harness connection, you pry up on the little gray tab, get a little better leverage with my finger, pry up, and pull that connector off. Then pull the rest of the harness out of the clips, and undo that side marker, and we're going to reinstall our old one 'cause it's in good shape.

You would take your new tail light assembly and reinstall the harness, and the three or four bulbs, as well as clip the harness connector back in. Once you've set the position, the light back in place. Reconnect the harness, and then put the light into place. You'll need to make sure the back is lined up and then push it forward, then push the side in, and lock those clips in place. Then just load the screws into your socket and start them up. Then tighten up those screws. You don't want to over tighten them, just get them nice and firm. With those tightened up put the gold caps back in place. The tab goes up at top and then they push in at the bottom, and you should be all set.
