Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video we show you how to service a taillight on this 2000 Oldsmobile Alero, same as a '99 - '04. No tools are necessary. We're going to show you both how to service the bulbs if you have a bulb out, and also how to replace the whole assembly if you have one that's been broken.
For these taillights, you're going to work in the trunk. This panel you want to lift up and off. As you can see, somebody must have gone sideways with it. They broke all the clips off. These just pull up and out. If you lift this panel straight up, it will come out correctly. Then inside, you have this cargo net. We take it off of there. You can pull this back. There are little thumb screws to remove. I'll fast forward through removing those thumb screws. There's three of them that hold the light and then the light pulls back. I will take that middle one which holds the cargo net and take that apart so I can get the net and the side panel back in easier. Take that out. If you're servicing your bulbs, two of them, the larger one have a little frontal tabs. You press the tab and it's turned counterclockwise. The bulb comes out. The smaller one turns counterclockwise and comes out. Take this harness right off.
Your new light from 1A Auto. It's just like the original. It's going right in just exactly the same. As far as these bulbs go, they just pull out and push back in. Make sure the little rubber gaskets stays with the socket. Clip the harness right on the same place that has the gaskets. The light fits in. Push those studs in. I'm going to speed it up again as I put those thumb screws back in. You want to put those in and tighten them up nice and firm. They don't have to be extremely tight. Once you get those tightened up, then put your panel back in place and the thumb screw that holds that in place and your net. This panel, just bring in. Press down.
