Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto and I hope this How To Video helps you out. The next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com.
In this video, we're going to show you how to service the taillight on this 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis, same as a '98 to '02. The only tool you're going to need is an 11mm wrench or a socket and ratchet.
Okay, to service the taillight, you want to start here in your trunk. Okay there are a couple of pins holding this panel. You just want to pull firmly, shake it up and down, until they come out. Okay, now you can pull - there is a kind of grommet holding this right here, twist that off. I am going to fast forward there as I pull that trim panel back. There are three 11mm nuts that hold the taillight in. You can use an 11mm wrench and just as soon as you loosen them a few turns, they come right off by hand. And then, once you have those out, then your connector is right down below. Okay, right down here is your connector. You press a little tab right here and disconnect the light. And now just pull the light straight back and pull the wiring grommet right through and there's your light out. If you are just looking to change bulbs, just turn it clockwise and the bulbs will pull right out of their sockets. Push back in and do the same for these other two.
There is your harness separate from the light. If you get your light from 1A Auto, it comes with the chrome and everything and a nice gasket that makes a very nice replacement. You will want to take your harness. Okay, put the lights in and then turn clockwise to lock. Just note that the light with the long kind of extension - you can see how the bulb goes into a long extension - that goes on the bottom receptacle there. Fish it through and push through with one hand, pull the grommet through with the other, put it back in place. And you just kind of push it right down through and pull this back a little bit. I am looking right down here and I can see that the stud is down there - let's do this one here. It's just a matter of getting them into the right slot and in place. Pull down and reconnect our connector. And I am going to fast forward here, as first I just thread each nut on by hand, then tighten them up with a wrench. You want to tighten them nice and firm, don't over tighten them as you could actually break the taillight, if you make them too tight. And then after that, put the insulation back, put the little knob on that holds it in the upper corner, and then put the trunk opening trim back in place.
