How to repair, install, fix, change or replace rusted, corroded, or stuck spark plugs on 2010 Volvo XC60

step 1 :Removing the Ignition Coil
- Lift up the engine cover by hand
- Disconnect the ignition coil wiring harness
- Remove the 8mm bolt from the ignition coil
- Pull the ignition coil up and out

step 2 :Removing the Spark Plug
- Loosen the spark plug with a 5/8 inch spark plug socket
- Remove the spark plug

step 3 :Preparing the New Spark Plug
- Find the spark plug gap for your vehicle in the under hood decal or your owner's manual
- Check the gap with a spark plug gapping tool
- The correct setting of the tool should slide into and out of the gap with some resistance
- Adjust the gap as necessary

step 4 :Installing the New Spark Plug
- Put the new spark plug into place
- Tighten the spark plug with a 5/8 inch spark plug socket

step 5 :Installing the New Ignition Coil
- Push the new ignition coil into place with the wiring connector facing the rear of the vehicle
- Insert the 8mm bolt into the ignition coil
- Connect the ignition coil wiring harness
- Push on the engine cover

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a spark plug on this 2010 Volvo XC60 with the 3.2 liter inline six non-turbo engine. The items you'll need for this is an 8mm socket and ratchet with an extension, a 5/8" spark plug socket, and a gap tool.
Lift up on your engine cover and pull it free. Then along the back of your engine you'll see your six ignition coils. On the one that you want to replace, just push the tab on the harness and disconnect it, and then remove that 8mm bolt. Now pull the ignition coil up and out.
Now using your spark plug socket you want to just remove the spark plug, which is down inside the chamber. We'll fast forward as Don removes that.
Use a gap tool to adjust the gap on your spark plug. To do that you just bend it with these tabs and then it should have just a little resistance on the right size. You can find the appropriate size needed in your user manual.
Then just put your spark plug into your socket and then feed it down into place.
Take your new ignition coil and push it down into place. Then replace that 8mm bolt. Now reconnect your harness. Make sure the grommets on your engine cover are in place and then push the cover back down into place. You're all set.
