Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the spark plugs on this 2002 Suzuki XL-7 with the 2.7-liter V6 engine. We show you how to replace one of the spark plugs, but all six are pretty much the same procedure. The items you'll need for this include a Phillips screwdriver, an 8mm socket and ratchet with an extension, and a 5/8" spark plug socket.
Because it's a V6, there are six ignition coils and spark plugs. There are three on this side under this cover, and three more on this side under this cover. To access them, you have to remove this cover by removing these two Phillips screws. We'll just fast-forward as Don removes those.
Push the tab on the harness for the ignition coil that you want to remove, and pull that harness free. Then remove this 8mm bolt. Once it's removed, pull the ignition coil up and out. Now, using your 5/8" spark plug socket, just remove that spark plug, and you can see he uses the ratchet to break it free. Then just use the extension and the socket to remove it the rest of the way.
You want to check what the gap is for the spark plugs in your vehicle. As you can see, it says right here: .039"?. We're going to use our gap tool, and you can see that we have way too big of a gap, so we just bend it down, check again, and there's no resistance. You want just a little bit of resistance. So that right there is perfect.
Just put it back into your spark plug socket, lower it back down, and twist it back into place. Then tighten it up with your ratchet. Put your ignition coil back into place, replace that 8mm bolt, and tighten it up. Then reconnect the harness. Put this cover back into place. Then replace those two Phillips screws. You're all set.
