In this video we're going to show you how to replace a side view mirror. This is a 2016 Ford F-150. Pretty much the same for this generation. We're gonna show you the driver side, passenger side is basically the same. And this is an XLT, so if you have a Lariat or a Platinum, it might be slightly different taking the door panel off. I hope you like this video. If you do, please click Subscribe. And also, if you want the mirror that's replaced in this video, check out the link to 1AAuto.com in the bottom.

The items you'll need for this repair are: 10mm socket, ratchet, socket extension, flat head screwdriver, pick tool

Start by opening up the door. And if you have a switch to turn off your dome light, shut off your dome light so you don't drain your battery. The correct tool to use is a plastic trim removal tool, and we sell these at 1AAuto.com. If you haven't picked those up yet, you could always just use a flat blade screw driver. Cover it up with a cloth to make sure you don't harm your paint. But, like I said, you should be able to pull this out. Work your fingers underneath, pull firmly straight out, and then come down to the bottom and again, pull firmly straight out. Don't pull this panel down. It comes off and these two clips are in the metal, and these two clips down here are in, actually, your panel.

Disconnect your mirror. There's just a little tab towards the front of the vehicle, press that down, disconnect, pull this harness clip off that stud. And then there are four fasteners, two 10mm nuts here and two 10mm bolts up here. All's you really need is a 10mm socket and a ratchet. The extension just helps me keep my ratchet away from the paint on the vehicle. And we'll remove the four fasteners. And I'm all loose here but there is a clip that's in there still. This mirror's in good shape so we're going to put it back on, but obviously, if your mirror's broken, just pull it off.

Installing the mirror. And if you have a heavier one you'll probably want somebody to help you at this point, but easiest to look from the inside, see the studs coming through. Pull it in and start your fasteners. Just going to tighten them all preliminarily first, then I'll go around and, you know, tighten them firm and tight, but don't over tighten them. Put this clip back onto the stud, and plug in your harness.

And then just put your trim panel back in place.
