Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace a side view mirror on this 2004 Volvo XC90. It's pretty much the same as any '03 to '12 Volvo XC. We're going to show you the driver's side, passenger's side is the same procedure. The tools you'll need are a small flat blade screwdriver, a T25 Torx driver, a 13mm socket and ratchet or wrench, and door panel clip tool or household putty knife.
Start out in this top corner. Just firmly grab it or use a screwdriver and pry it; it comes out. In behind here, if you have the upgraded stereo, there's a little speaker. Just press on the gray tab and hit disconnect. Then you're going to use a screwdriver again, carefully, right under here and there are three tabs. That comes up and lifts up and out. There are two Torx screws right under here. These are T25, so I have a T25 Torx bit. You can use a screwdriver style or this style, it's a socket with a ratchet and extension. I'm just going to speed up here while I take those two screws out.
Now, either you want a door panel clip tool or a household putty knife, either one works, pull out on your door panel a little bit at the top, put your putty knife in, slide it down until you come to one of the clips, and then just give it a good quick pull further until you come to one of the clips and just go right around. Also, one good tug can actually bring it out.
Once you bring your door panel out a little bit, you have your door handle cable, you just have to separate a couple little clips and pull out on that a little bit. It comes right out and then there's two connections. I'm not sure you can see both of them, this green one, there's buttons in behind, you just reach your finger right in behind right in the center of this green one and it pulls out. There's the button right there, and then there's a gray one back here. It's the same thing; you just feel for a little button, push the button, and work the connector out. There's the connector, there's the button and your door panel comes off.
Right up here is where your mirror mounts. Your connector is right down here, just press a little button in the center that disconnects the 13mm nut right here. Take that nut off, remove the mirror, and it comes right out. You can see my mirror is actually in pretty good shape here.
Reinstallation is just reversal of the procedure. Put your connector through, pull the wires right through, there is a line up tab on the mirror make sure those go in, and put your bolt on. Reconnect your harness lead.
To reinstall your door panel, it's pretty easy. Just reconnect your harnesses, the green one, and then gray one. Take your cable and put it in place. Just do a quick test. Watch the cable, make sure that the handle grabs it. Now put it back up in place and make sure this wire comes up top. Put your lock through, peek in behind, see the clip, guide it on. I got the back on in first.
I'm going to check my front one here and go right around. Insert my two T25 screws. I'm going to fast-forward here as I put those two screws in and tighten them up nice and firm. Then, you can't see it very well, but up top there I reconnect the speaker and the little upper triangle and snap that back in place. This piece, you have to push it in, down, and lock in place in there and then lock it on.
