Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the driver side mirror on a 2000 Chevy Cavalier. It's a very similar operation for many years of the Cavalier, as well as for the passenger side. You'll need a new mirror assembly from 1A Auto as well as a 10mm socket and socket wrench, a 10mm open-ended wrench, and as a Phillips head screwdriver.

Locate the Phillips head screw that's in the cover by the handle. I'm removing that screw with the Phillips head screwdriver and pulling that panel off. Pull out the insulation that's in the little area there behind the panel. Locate the three 10mm nuts. Fast-forward as I remove two of those nuts with the socket and socket wrench. The third one closest to the front of the door is tough to get to with the socket wrench, so I'm using an open-ended wrench. Fast-forward as I take that out. Pull the mirror away from the door and out.

If the insulation doesn't come off with the mirror assembly, you'll need to peel it off the door itself. Here's a side-by-side comparison of the old part and the new part. They're identical.

With the new mirror, I'm just going to make sure that the handle goes through the hole there. Push it up and try to keep it from falling out for a second while you open the door and get in to start putting in those three 10mm nuts. Then fast-forward as I finish putting in those three nuts.

Reinstall the insulation or the little foam padding and the triangular piece that you took out from the inside of the door. Now reinstall the triangular cover panel with the Phillips head screw. Check to make sure that it's fully operational in all four directions.
