How To Replace Side Mirror 2000-06 Chevy Tahoe

Created on: 2020-06-26

Watch this video to see how to install new side view mirrors from TRQ on your 2000-2006 Chevy Tahoe.

Tools needed

  • Gloves

    7mm Socket

    10mm Socket

    Ratchet

    T20 Socket

    Trim Tool Set

    Safety Glasses

    Pocket Screwdriver

Take this panel off right here. You can use a trim tool. Just pry it out. It's clipped in, and then it slides up just like that. Take a pocket screwdriver or a trim tool, and you can try to pry this off. Sometimes it's harder to get it off from this side than get it off from this side. Then you can just pry this off like this. There's two prongs that hold it on there and one in the middle. Normally, there's a screw right there holding this panel on. Someone put this together wrong, so that should be over there.

Under here, you can use the trim tool. Slide this out just like that. It's a little cap right here. Use your pocket screwdriver to get under to that cap, and it's a pushpin right here. Just slide under that pushpin, and try to pry it out. Now, there's a screw right here. Use a 7-millimeter socket. Take that one off, and, like I said, there should be one there. Use a T20 and take this screw out. Then you can grab the panel, and you want to slide it up. You don't want to pull it out. And we can disconnect the electrical connectors here. Push down on the buttons just like that.

There's one right here that kind of ratchets. You have to push down on it, and you have to slide it like this. It's normally like that, so there's a little tab there, and you slide that down and disconnect the last one. Oops. There's a light that's down here with the wire. You just disconnect the light and just slide it out. Just pulls out. Then you can separate the door panel. Now, we can slide the wires through the vapor barrier. You peel this back a little bit just like that.

There's a retainer right there. You can use a trim tool. There might be one down here as well. Just pop it off. Pop this one off as well just like that. Take this foam pad out. Then there's three 10-millimeter nuts right there. Just use a 10-millimeter socket and a ratchet. When you get to the last nut, make sure you support the mirror, so it doesn't fall. And take that last one off. And then slide the mirror out. Now, there is this little retainer that might hold it in a little bit. Squeeze those tabs, and slide the mirror out. Just fish the harness through, and there you go.

Now, with the new mirror, you can transfer this piece over from the old mirror if it's a different color. Sometimes it's a little difficult to get off. It's double-sided taped on, and there's some clips, or you can paint this one to match your vehicle, or you can just leave it black. Before we install the mirror, take these little bumpers off. These are just for shipping. Now, we can slide the harness through the hole on the outside just like that. And get the holes lined up. Push it on.

And the mirror comes with new nuts. You can use those nuts, and take your 10-millimeter socket, and snug those up. Then take this foam piece and put that back. Now, you can position the wire the way the old one was routed, and you can use some wire ties, or you can take that hold-down off the other wires and tape it on this one, whatever works better for you. Pull one right here, and slide this through the hole in the vapor barrier.

I'll just trim those. All right, I'll just trim these and slide that back in position. That's good. Now, we can take the door panel. Connect up all these connectors as you plug this one in. Then you slide that ratchet over. There you go. It's plugged in. And plug this one in and the mirror. And that one is clicked in. And take this light right here and slide it into the housing. That's good. That's all in.

Take the door panel. Go over the handle, and you're going to press it on as you push it in. Once it's all in, and you push the door panel down, just make sure it's in all the way. That looks good. Now, take this bolt. We're going to install this right here. Get that one started, and you can snug it down. Now, there should be another bolt that goes right here. This vehicle doesn't have that bolt, but put that one in. Then there's the bolt right here. Put this one. Get that started, and snug it down.

This little pushpin goes right here. Push it down, and you can put this trim cover back over. Just slide it over the handle. Then you have to line up the tabs a little bit. Then push it on, and it's going to go over the lock rod. That's good. And then this trim piece. Just slide this in down below. Line it up. Lock it in place.
