Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a mirror on this '97 Dodge Intrepid, same as any '93 to '97. Tools you'll need include a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a 10mm socket with a ratchet and extension.
Start by disconnecting your negative battery cable, using a 10mm wrench. This is really just to prevent your battery from running down while you have the door open. Remember to reconnect it at the end.
Okay, use a flat blade screwdriver. Pry the front of your speaker grille out, and then pull the grille off. Now there are seven screws: one there, two on either side of your speaker, one down at the bottom of the door, one up in here behind the door handle, one down in here in the pull cup, then one here on the back edge of the door. I'm just going to fast-forward as I remove those seven Phillips screws. Once those screws are out, take your panel and lift up.
Now in behind there's a clip here, pinch it off with your thumb. We're going to pull this rod up and out. The door panel comes off enough for you to work.
To access the mirror, and just kind of pull the plastic down out of the way. Then use a flat blade screwdriver or a putty knife. Okay, I'm just going to speed this up here. Try and be as careful as you can peeling back this black kind of insulation/sound deadener type stuff to expose the three holes so you can get to the nuts that hold the mirror on. Down here's where your mirror connects. There's a little button right there, push on that. Then you pry that and pull that right out.
Take an 8mm socket with a ratchet and an extension. There are three nuts that hold the mirror on. You get to them right through these holes. When you're taking them off, you want to kind of lift them up and then out. Don't drop them. Just unscrew until they don't really come out anymore. Then lift up and bring them off. As you undo the last one, kind of grab hold of the mirror, or what's left of it. Pull it out, pull that last nut out. Pull your harness right up and out.
Here's our original mirror. New mirror from 1A Auto. You can see the new one all the same. It's got a couple little shipping protectors on it. The most important part, the original plug. Here's the original plug. The new plug from 1A Auto, exactly the same. You can transfer over this little clip here to the new harness afterwards.
New mirror, take the harness and feed it down and kind of forward. Put it in place. Push the mirror on. We've got one of our nuts in our socket. Put it on there. Okay, tighten these bolts so they're snug. They don't have to be overly tight. Put this up, back in its place for what it's worth. Then this part, what you want to do is try and push it this way first. Actually, what you want to do is take it, kind of bend it, stick it in place first. Then push it on the outside. Then kind of clip it up on the inside, like that.
Okay, with your harness, you want to make sure it's routed inside this channel here, okay. Then plug it in. Then we'll take a piece of electrical tape and a little clip. Pull the harness some, put the clip on there, then tape around it. A second piece of tape, do the same thing. Clip that in place.
To put the door panel back on, you're going to lift it up. You can see down there, you want to put the tabs into the door at the bottom. Okay, then lift it close and reconnect. Put it up into place, make sure your lock is through. Push it against the door and slide it down. I'm going to really speed it up here as I put those seven screws back in. For this door panel it's pretty easy to put back on, you just make sure it's in place. Make sure all the hooks are in place. Make sure the top's correct, push it in and down. Then replace all these screws and your speaker grille.
