In this video, I'm going to show you how to remove and reinstall the serpentine belt on this 2000 Oldsmobile Alero. This vehicle has the twin cam 4-cylinder, and the belt actually turns out to be pretty good, so I'll just take it off and put it back on and show you. The only tool you're going to need is a 15 mm open-end wrench. On these engines, the belt enters right down there. What you want to do is take a 15mm wrench and put it right on that bolt right there. Now what we do is take our wrench, and push it towards the back of the engine. That loosens the belt. You can take it right off of the alternator there. Slowly let your wrench back, pull it out, and the belt, pull it off your crank and your AC, and pull it out.

Just in case you didn't catch it, and because diagrams always help me, this is a diagram of how the belt's going to run. Basically what I do, because it's a little tough to film it, but I basically put a loop down around the crank and the AC pulley, and then I kind of pull it up, or actually push it down around the tensioner, and then hold it up. While I take the pressure off the tensioner, I then put it on the alternator. To reinstall the belt, it's a little tough to see here, but you basically just want to put it down and get it around the AC compressor first. Then down, and I'm going to reach behind the motor, or behind this mount here and pull it around my crank pulley. Once you have your belt down around your crank and your AC pulley, then you push it down and put it underneath your tensioner pulley so that the side coming from the crank to the tensioner is down there.

Now I'm holding it up right here. I take my wrench, put it on here, pull my wrench over, put the belt on to the alternator. Make sure it's still on the tensioner there. Let the wrench off. My belt's on. I want to make sure it's on everything correctly. That looks pretty good.
