Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a serpentine belt on this 2001 Volkswagen Beetle with the 1.8L turbo engine. It's the same part and similar process on these Beetles from 1999 to 2005. The items you'll need for this is a new serpentine belt from 1AAuto.com, an adjustable wrench and a flashlight.

Your serpentine belt is located here on the side. Right here is your tensioner. Using an adjustable wrench, just put it onto this post right here. Then pull back on the wrench. That'll release the tension on the belt and you can pull it off the alternator. Once it's free, release the tension on the tensioner, and just pull the belt off the other pulleys, and up and out.

On the left is the old serpentine belt; on the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see that they're identical, and they'll fit exactly the same.

Because of the location of the belt, it's a little bit hard to show Don putting it back onto the pulleys. You want to just use this belt diagram, and refer to it as you're putting your belt back on. Feed the belt back down into place, and start with the lower pulleys. You want to end with the alternator, and that's all that's left. Put the wrench on the tensioner and pull it back, and put the belt back up onto the alternator pulley. Once you have the belt fully on the alternator, just release the tension, and make sure your belt is in the right order. Then you're all set.
