How to Replace Rear Window Regulator Motor 2007-11 Toyota Camry

I’m working on the rear passenger door. I’m going to remove it. We're going to use these plastic trim tools. You can get these from 1AAuto.com. Pry out this plastic piece that's behind here. Pop the trim tool in here. I’m just going to hold open the door handle. That pops it right out. Put that aside. Remove the screw with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Use our plastic trim tool again. Slide it under here. Pop this handle cover off. Just kind of work it underneath. Put that aside. There's two screws, Phillips head. Remove those. If that screw stays in there, that's fine; we can grab it after we pop the door off. With the three screws removed, we can pop the door off the clips. There's a bit of a lip here, just on the inside of the door. Pull behind it, and I can reach underneath. You just want to reach around the edge of the door, and we pick the door panel up and up from the door. There's the screw that fell out.

Pull the door handle and lock mechanism out, just pops it out, and it'll sit there. Unplug the harness for the window switch. Push in on the lock. Put the door panel aside.

These push clips, they're not damaged; they just popped out. One stuck in the door. I'll use a trim tool to pop that one out. This one went down here and came out, so I'm just going to put it back in. It just slides back into place. It can be reused. I've just got to get that one out of the door.

Going to disconnect the handle that opens the door. Also has the door lock on here. Just going to push the cable up and out and slide that little lead weight. Pop it right out. Same for the other one. Take note that the white was on the top, the green was on the bottom so when you go to put it back together, you don't reverse them.

We need to pull this vapor barrier off the door. It's got butyl tape around it that's sealing it. I can be reused. This is where you're going to want to wear gloves because this stuff is very, very sticky and it kind of gets everywhere but you basically just carefully peel this back. You can have a razor blade with you with you, and you can just kind of cut it. It helps on a warmer day to do this. If it peels off, don't worry about it because this stuff is incredibly sticky and we should be able to reuse this piece without much issue. I'm just going to carefully cut that. Try not to stretch the pink plastic too much.

As you're moving along, so this harness is kind of in this opening here. I'm going to feed the harness back through, and I'm just going to keep peeling it. I'm going to feed these wires out, actually these are the cables. They kind of sit there. I'm going to put this aside, obviously sticky side up so that we can reuse it.

Remove this window switch and take a plastic prying tool and pry out and try to feed this up. It pops right out of place. I've got the ignition turned on in the car. I'm going to plug in the window switch that I pulled out of the door handle. Now be careful that you don't have your hand in here when you put this down, you could pinch your fingers. Put the window glass all the way down. I'm going to slide this window glass off of this track. This run channel's going to have to be removed. I'm going to go turn the ignition off so that I can't hit the window switch by accident and pinch my fingers. I'm going to disconnect the switch so that the door window can't move anymore. I'm also going to unplug the window motor which is right here. I'll just use the small, flat-plated screwdriver to push up on the lock and pop it out. This way the motor can't move at all because I'll have my fingers in there. I don't want them to get caught.

I pull the window winch out of here. I'll try to work it out with my fingers and just pull it down, and set that aside. I'll loosen up the 10 millimeter bolt here that's at the top of the wrench handle. I'll loosen up the bottom one, and put those bolts aside. This rubber just pulled out of here. At the very top we're going to pull back this rubber. There's a screw holding in the wrench handle. Get the Phillip's head screwdriver and remove it, and put that screw aside. Now that these bolts are removed, I'm going to pull some more of the rubber wrench handle back and I can slide the metal piece out. Just kind of feed it out of the door opening. We'll just put this aside and pull the rubber wrench handle out, and just lay it on the outside of the door.

I'll go inside the door cavity here. This glass has to slide to the outside to slide off of its track. I'll support it with my hand so it doesn't fall off and also lift it up. You might have to angle it a bit so it's going to come lose, and then very carefully pull it out of the door opening and put this aside because you don't want to break it.

Remove the 10 millimeter bolts holding in the window regulator. This top one is a hanger bolt. It actually hangs it while you install it, so just loosen this one because it will slide out of that hole when we're done. Fully remove the other three and reach in here and this one that is being held, this is kind of hanging on there and slide it up and push it through. We're going to feed the window regulator out.

This is our window regulator and motor assembly. To remove the motor, it's three T-25 Torx. It will loosen them all up. I'm just going to fold it down so we slide it off of the gear.

To reinstall it, I'm going to take the motor and the gear, it's going to sit in there. I'll move it a little bit. Slide it right into place. Get these screws started. I'm just going to snug these down and it can be reinstalled in the car.

I've got this bolt. I left it installed, so I'll feed this in the door opening. Reach up. It’s just going to hang in place. Move the regulator back into position. This also needs to come through where the connector is. 10 millimeter bolts threaded in. Reach in, pull it towards the door panel. Snug these up.

The glass has a curve to it. It's only going to go in one way. It matches the curvature of the door, so I'm just going to slide it in very carefully. Don't force it, it just slides in freely. I'm going to reach down and guide it in with my hand. Now that I'm down here, I want to get it back on this little pivot point. The pivot point's kind of got a rectangle shape, so it might not fit. It's square shaped, so it should fit either direction as long as you have it lined up right. I'm just going to get it in place. It's going to be loose. I'll set it into the winch handle over here so it's not bouncing around for now.

I'm going to wipe the grease off my fingers to install that run channel. This is our run channel. This part goes against the glass. This rubber is going to go in it eventually, but we need to feed this into the door panel so it can sit like this. I'll just carefully work it in here. I did hit the glass, but I'm going to catch it and put it back over. Hold that there in my hand. I'll get this flipped and turned into position. I want to take the run channel. I'm going to slide it down into position. I'm going to push it into the metal run channel.

Now I'm going to mess with the glass and move it around until I can get the glass settled into this channel. I should pop this out a little bit and bring this up. See it up in the top of the door frame? At the same time, I'm also trying to work the window glass into the channel. I've got to use both hands to maneuver it. I've got that in place, and I'm going to push well, I'm going to get this into place, basically where I want it. I'm going to put one of the bolts in there to just hold it in place so it doesn't move around. I'm not going to fully tighten it though. I just don't want it to fall out.

I've got the bottom one caught. I've got the bottom bolt in. I've got everything loose. The glass is in the rubber in the channel. I'll push this up into place. I had to fiddle with this rubber a little bit, make sure it fits right. That all into place, a screw in there, feed our rubber into here.

The rubber actually needs to go down more. I can slide it on the glass a little bit. It's seated all in here, and this side, that's pushed under there. I like where those are sitting. I can actually see there's actually little wear marks where the bolts were, so I'm going to line this one back up where it was. Just tighten it down. If it feels tight, I'll stop. I'm going to turn the ignition on again.

I'm going to plug our window motor in, and plug our window switch in. I'm just going to test it, make sure it goes up and down.

We got our original vapor barrier here. Still has a lot of the butyl tape left on there. If you need to get more butyl tape, it's pretty easy to get and you can just put some more on there.

First, I'm going to feed the cables through. Just got to get them through. Just kind of let it hang on the cables. I'm going to feed the harness up and through. That's everything, so I'm just going to kind of line it up roughly where it was before and just push it back into place. Don't worry too much about any wrinkles. Just push it down and it'll seal. In this car, the white cable went on top, and the green one went on the bottom.

You can kind of tell by the length of the cable which one fits better, because they will both fit in both spots, but you'll end up crossing them so this will want to open the door and this will want to lock the doors, which you don't want that. You want this to open the door, and you want this to lock the door. White one's going to go in the top, but that little lead weight and the end of the cable in like that. Put it over. Put the green one in just like that. That works the door.

Now we're going to need to install our door panel. Take our door panel, make sure all of our clips are okay. Take this, it's going to slide in like that. There's two pins in the top and the bottom that match this. It pops into place. Don't forget to plug in your window switch. Nothing like putting this together and then having to take it back off to plug it back in. There's a groove in here with some clips. They're going to snap into place in here so I'm going to start with the door panel kind of on the high end. It might be easier with the window down but you can do it with the window up. I'm just going to snap it down into place. Then we're going to go down, push all the clips in. Start with the small screw that's behind this. Put the plastic cover back in. You'll start by pushing that clip in first, then it'll snap in the back ones, so open the door handle, snap that into place. We have to do the other two screws in the door handle. Just kind of goes straight on.
