How To Replace Rear Power Door Lock Actuator 1994-97 Honda Accord

In this video, we'll be showing you how to replace the rear door lock actuator in this 1995 Accord, same as any '94, '97 Accord Sedan or Station wagon. Tools you'll need are pretty regular, pretty straight forward: Phillips screw driver, regular screwdriver, a putty knife and rag or a door panel clip tool, and you might need a large Phillips screw driver or a bit and ratchet, which I'll show you later. We're going to speed through taking the door panel off. If you want to see this in regular time or regular motion, check out our other videos for door panel remove and replace. Once we get through this ... Once you have your door panel off, you're going to want to remove this bracket, which is going to allow you to take your water shield off and as you can see, somebody's pretty much ripped through the water shield on this car. I don't recommend doing it from the water shield because the water shield helps keep water out of your car. After you've removed your door panel and your water shield, you'll want to use a Phillips screw driver and remove this Phillips screw right here. That allows you to push this guide back, down, and then you can pull it out. The next you're going to want to do is you're going to want to remove these three screws back here for the lock mechanism. If you're lucky on this car, I think this car been apart before, so the screws come right out.

If your car's never apart, then you need one of two things. This is called an impact driver, but this a little on the expensive side. This is the right tool for the job. You actually put it in and then you twist and then you use a hammer to bang it and it actually moves right in to the screw and un-turns it or releases it. More likely, you can get a bit with a large Phillips head and put that in and get them out. On this, you actually use a ratchet driver and you have more leverage. You push it in and peel it off and this only costs maybe two or three bucks at the most. Luckily again, with this I can remove these screws. Your next step to get to the lock actuator are to remove this bolt here and this is holding the window channel. You're going to want to reach in here, pull the window channel, and that allows the lock to start moving down. You need to pull these rods from their clip, remove this Phillips screw from inside this lock mechanism, and then this lock mechanism ... once that screw's out of there, which it's most of the way out of there, it actually just pries off. It's got a little ... basically got a little clip that gets secured by that screw. Then, what you need to do is pull on this window channel enough to slide your mechanism down and this unplugs here and you want to, as you reach in back here, you pinch the clip in behind. Clip had got a couple gears that stick to the door. Push that clip in well.

Pull your whole actuator assembly out. There's three Phillips screws right here. One, two, three. Once you've unscrewed those, you can see back here is where the actuator is actually hooked on. You pull it forward and off. There's your actuator off. To put it back on, this is a perfectly good working actuator. You slide it up there, push it forward, get that gear in behind, on and then lined up, and put your screws back in. Put the screws on in there and wiggle it a little bit to get the screw to go in and your other two. I was just moving it back and forth until those screws get a hold and then put them in until they tighten and get them firm. They don't have to be incredibly tight, but they need to be firm. Now, you want to put your actuator and lock simply down in through this hole. Start out below, obviously this window channel. Here's your actuator and you want to be ... when you're removing it and putting it back together, you're pulling this window channel forward so you can get your actuator up through there. With this arm grab a hold of that window channel. I'm pushing my assembly up in there. Get the rod clear of- there's a bracket to the window channel.

Once the rod is clear that, then I can plug these little plugs back in. Plug this in. Get it roughly up in there. Then, I can put my rods back in. The shorter one goes on top. The other one on bottom. Now, I can clip this guy in and push. Now, reinstall this screw. Then, you go over here, lift up the mechanism. That left screw ...Go ahead and start with the bottom on. Tighten up the bottom one just a little bit so it pulls these into place. Getting this all screwed in. Now, you can tighten it all up. Now, put the bolt back into your window channel. Tighten that up. We'll do a quick test. Everything's working great. Then, put this in right underneath. Get these tabs in. Get that outside and then get these tabs in. Pull it forward and then take your screw and tighten that up. Now, you can put your water shield back on and your door panel back on and you're all set. Unfortunately, this car doesn't have much of a water shield left, so we'll just put this bracket back on and then our door panel can be done.
