How to Replace Rear Liftgate Button 2008-12 Ford Escape

How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a damaged, worn out, faulty or shorted power rear liftgate button on 08, 09, 10, 11, 12 Ford Escape

  1. step 1 :Removing the Interior Liftgate Panel
    • Open the liftgate
    • Remove the four Phillips screws from liftgate panel
    • Pull the panel down to loosen it
    • Lower the liftgate
    • Lift the lift glass
    • Push out the upper section of the panel
    • Remove the liftgate panel
  2. step 2 :Removing the Rear Exterior Liftgate Trim
    • Remove the two 11mm nuts directly behind the hatch
    • Disconnect the switch electrical connector
    • Squeeze the retainer clips to the side with needle nose pliers and press them up
    • Press the rubber grommet on the wiring harness through
    • Lower the hatch
    • Slide the weather strip up a little
    • Remove the exterior trim
  3. step 3 :Removing the Rear Liftgate Button
    • Disconnect the wiring harness from the switch
    • Press on the retainers with a flat blade screwdriver
    • Remove the switch
  4. step 4 :Installing the Rear Liftgate Button
    • Insert the switch into place
    • Connect the wiring harness
  5. step 5 :Installing the Rear Exterior Liftgate Trim
    • Slide the connector and rubber grommet into the hatch door
    • Press the exterior trim onto the hatch door
    • Open the hatch door
    • Connect the wiring harness
    • Tighten the 11mm bolts to the exterior trim
  6. step 6 :Installing the Liftgate Panel
    • Insert the liftgate panel into place
    • Press the liftgate panel clips in
    • Tighten the four Phillips screws to the liftgate panel
    • Close the liftgate

    Flat Blade Screwdriver

    Phillips Head Screwdriver

    Ratchet

    Needle nose pliers

    11mm Socket
