step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Pry off the trim piece inside the door pull with a flat blade screwdriver
- Remove the two Phillips head screws inside the door pull
- Remove the two T20 screws from the bottom of the door panel
- Pry out the door panel by hand
- Lift the door panel up and off
- Disconnect the wiring harnesses from the door panel
- Disconnect the latch cable from the door handle

step 2 :Removing the Door Handle
- Remove the Phillips screw from the door handle
- Pry out the door handle tabs with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pull out the door handle

step 3 :Preparing the Door Handle
- Pry the window switch out of the old door handle with a flat blade screwdriver
- Push the window switch into the new door handle

step 4 :Installing the Door Handle
- Slide the door handle into the door panel
- Snap in the door panel tabs
- Insert the Phillips screw into the door handle

step 5 :Installing the Door Panel
- Connect the wiring harnesses to the door panel
- Clip the latch cable onto the door handle
- Lift the door panel into place
- Push in the door panel clips
- Insert the two Phillips screws into the door pull
- Insert the two T20 screws into the bottom of the door panel
- Push in the door pull trim piece

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a rear interior door handle on this 2004 Volkswagen Jetta. We show you on the passenger's side, but the driver's side rear door is the same procedure. The tools you'll need for this are a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a T20 Torx driver.
Carefully pry off your pull handle cover, with a flat blade screwdriver. Then, you want to remove this Phillips screw and this Phillips screw right here. We'll just fast forward as Don removes those. Then, you want to remove this T20 screw and this T20 screw. We'll fast forward as Don removes those. Pry out on the door panel to release the clips and lift it up and out of the windowsill and pull it back. Then, you want to disconnect these two harnesses right here by just pushing on the tabs and pulling them free. Then, you want to pry back on this clip that's on your door handle cable. Once it's out of the bracket, just unhook the door handle cable and your door panel's free.
Remove this Phillips screw on the back of your door handle. Using a flat blade screwdriver, just pry back this tab and then this tab up here. Then, you want to just pry out these tabs on the door handle. Now, you can pull the door handle down and out.
You're going to want to swap over your window switch. Just pry out the tabs and pull the switch out. Push the switch into your new door handle, and then slide the door handle back up and over.
Snap it back into place and then push those two larger tabs back in. Replace your Phillips screw. To reattach your door panel, you just want to connect these two harnesses and then rehook your door handle into place and slide that clip forward. Put your lock rod back through your door panel and then put the door panel back into the windowsill. Once it's fully into place in the windowsill, just hit around the edges to reactivate those clips. Now, we'll fast forward as Don replaces those two Phillips screws in the pull handle and the two T20 screws along the bottom of the door panel. Now, just push your pull handle cover back into place and you're all set.
