Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a rear door release handle on a 2007 Pontiac G6. It's basically the same from one side to other and for model years 2007 through 2010. You'll need a flat blade screwdriver, a Torx 30 bit and socket driver, and a new handle from 1A Auto.

Using a pocket screwdriver, pry up on that outer door handle chrome piece, and pull it out of the way. Locate the two Torx 30 screws and remove them. I'm going to fast-forward as I remove those two screws. In the center of the door release lever housing, you're going to find a little cover. Use your pocket screwdriver to pull it aside and then behind there, there's a Torx 30 screw that you're going to need to use your socket wrench to remove. Locate the two plastic rivets on the outer edge of the door panel. Remove those plastic rivets by pressing in the center and then prying out the sides. Do that for both. Get your hands in behind the door panel and in between the door panel and the door itself and give it a couple of tugs to free it up from the plastic clips that hold the door panel to the door. Work it all the way around the outside. Once you've got those free, lift it up off of the top of the door. With the door panel off use a pocket screwdriver and release the clip that holds the door release cable to the door release handle. Then press in the tab and disconnect the connector there and pull your panel out of the way.

Now press in on the tab on the door handle and push it through.

Here's the old part, and the new part from 1A Auto. They're identical. Install the door handle by going from the outside of the door, to the inside, pressing in to the tab seats.

Reconnect your connector. Reinstall the door release cable by pressing it back into the housing with the socket, the ball end going into the socket and then the clip clipping into the door handle assembly. Install the lock rod through the hole on the top of the door panel. Press the top of the door panel on the door window sill and make sure that it's in the correct groove on the weather stripping that goes against the window. Once that's good, then go ahead and press down. Make sure that your plastic clips are all lined up, that go into the holes into the door. Once you know that they're all set, go ahead and give it a couple of taps around the outer portion of the door panel to seat those plastic clips. Reinstall the Torx 30 that goes into the door handle assembly. Reinstall the two Torx 30s that go into the grab handle. I'm going to fast-forward as I tighten those up. Install the trim piece on the door grab handle. Reinstall the plastic rivets. Make sure the center is slightly pulled out about a quarter of an inch. Push the rivet in, then push the center back in flush to lock it.
