Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
This video, we're going to show you how to replace a rear, inside door handle on this 2004 Volvo XC90. It's pretty much the same as any 2003 to 2012. The only tools you'll need include a flat blade screwdriver, T25 Torx driver, and a household putty knife or a door panel clip tool.
There are three clips that hold the little bezel on the door pull. The clips are at each end and then one in the middle. Carefully work a screwdriver underneath, pry up and out. Release that bezel so it comes up and off. Then, in behind, there are two T25 screws. Use a T25 socket with a ratchet extension, or you can use a regular driver and remove the two screws. Here I'm going to speed it up a little bit as I remove those screws. Now you're going to use a household putty knife or door panel clip tool and work it between the plastic panel and the metal door. You'll slide it up. You'll come to a clip and then pull quickly and firmly. Release the clip. Slide it down to the next one. Do the same thing. Just keep working your way right around the door. Like I said, just clip to the bottom and in the back. Once you have the clips around the perimeter released, then there's two clips in the middle of the door. Grab firmly, grab hold of both the front and back of the door panel and pull firmly to release those two clips.
Now, on the back side, you have your door handle cable. Now there are two clips. Just try and separate those. Pull the cable firmly. It comes off. Then there is connector for the window switch. There's a little release button. You have to find that button, push on it, and disconnect the switch. The button is actually towards the front of the vehicle. The door handle's right back here. Use your T25 Torx driver again and remove these three screws. When you get those screws out, you have a flat blade screwdriver. What you're going to do is you're going to pull on your bezel here while you pry the tab right here. Then there's also a tab right down here. Then, once you separate the bezel, you pull the door latch handle open a little bit. You separate the handle and the bezel.
Obviously, if your handle is broken, it will probably come apart a little easier than that. Mine's in fine shape. Put it back together. Put the bezel into place. Reach through with your finger and grab the handle. Pull the handle out a little bit and bring it through. Line everything up. Snap it back in place. Start our three screws back on. Fast-forward here again. Start the screws in just with your fingers first and then tighten them up nice and firm with your T25 Torx driver.
Put the panel back on. Check all your clips. One of mine did come out. You just put it back in place. Get the door panel nice and close. Reconnect our power window switch. Take our door locks handle cable and you just press it right into place. Just do a little quick test to make sure that the handle activates the cable. Put the door handle in place. Make sure you put the door lock now through. Just kind of peek back. Line up the clips, same thing over here. I guess we're going to have to just line up a little bit by feel. Clip it back on, take our two T25 screws. I'll just speed it up here as I put those screws back in. Tighten them up nice and firm. When you put this back down in, it's got two tabs that go down in here. You put the side closest to the door in and down first. Then snap the outer side in. It's all set.
