Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a rear door check on this 2003 Nissan Altima, and we do this on the passenger side but it's the same process on the driver side. The only tools that you're going to need for this are a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a 10mm socket and ratchet.
In your pull cup here, there is a small little screw cover, just pry that out, and remove that Phillips screw that's under there. Now, carefully pry up your switch panel. Then, disconnect the window switch by pushing on the tab on the harness. Behind your door handle, there's this little panel. You want to remove that, and then remove the Phillips screw in there and then the one in this pull cup. Once those are removed, just pull out along the edges of the door panel to separate the clips on the back, and then lift the door panel up and off. On the back of the door panel, are these two cables, you want to pull them out of the door. Push them forward and disconnect them.
Now, your door check is located right here and it's held in with three 10mm bolts, and we'll just fast forward as Don removes those. Once the bolt is removed, you can just reach in to your door and pull the door check right out. Just a quick note on this step: if you do have an upgraded sound system, you may have to remove a speaker from the door which is usually two or three screws.
Install your new one. Feed it back into the door, back into place, and just replace those three 10mm bolts. We'll just fast forward as Don puts them in by hand and then tightens them up with a socket and a ratchet.
Now to reconnect them, you want to clip them in, push them forward, and then push them back into the door. Now, put your door panel up onto the window sill and push it down and then hit around the edges to reactivate those clips, and make sure your window switch harness comes through. Now, we'll fast forward here, as Don replaces the Phillips screw on the pull cup and the Phillips screw behind the door handle, and replaces that little cover. Now, reconnect your window switch and push the switch panel down into place, and replace that other Phillips screw in the pull cup and the screw cover that goes over it, and you're all set.
