Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we show you how to remove and reinstall a rear door panel on this 2001 Volkswagen Passat, same as any '98 to '01. The tools you'll need for this repair: a flat-blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a T25 Torx driver, and a door panel clip tool, or a putty knife will work if you don't have a door panel clip tool.
To start, put the screwdriver up in here. Push nice and firm. Then you twist Okay, this little clip came out. We'll put it back on. Okay, there's a Phillips screw there, a Phillips screw there, and then a T25 Torx screw right under there. Okay, and I'll just speed up as I remove those three screws. Okay, take a door panel clip tool. Okay, move it in between here, and you can slide it until you hear the clip. Pull it out. Okay, slide it right onto that clip. Same thing up here Okay, you saw my screw come out. I pretty much have all those out. Slide the panel all the way off. I reach in behind, and there's a little clip that you kind of pull up on and then slide your cable back and then off. Okay and then unhook it. There's a couple of harnesses right here. Just press the tab, pull it out. Same thing here. You've got to squeeze two tabs. Okay, and then down here, there's your light. Kind of pull up on the tab and disconnect it. Okay, just to show you, here's your cable. When it's in there, it's kind of like this, so you have to reach in and pry this back, okay, and then pull it off.
Okay, to reinstall, bring your light right up and plug it right in. Okay, plug your connectors here in Okay, this is where your door handle goes. Pull out on your door handle a little bit, hook in the cable. Okay, and then pull the cable back. Put the cable into the groove and then slide it forward to lock on. And then make sure you put your lock button in. Okay, lift it up, push it against the window and down in. Okay, now hit it and get the clips reset. Put your two Phillips screws back in. Now, we'll speed up here as we put the Phillips screws back in and the T25 screw in the bottom and your trim panel here.
