In this video, we're going to show you how to replace your rear ABS sensor. This is a 2006 Ford Explorer. We show you on the passenger side; the driver's side's the same procedure. We hope you like this video. If you do, please click subscribe. Got lots of other videos for these Explorers, Mountaineers and Sport Tracs. Also check out 1AAuto.com for all your parts needs, whether it's an Explorer, a car, or truck, or whatever. Here are the items you'll need for this repair.
With the vehicle on the ground and with a 19mm socket or your tire iron, loosen up your lug nuts. Raise and support the vehicle. You can use jack and jack stands. We are using a lift. Remove the lug nuts the rest of the way, and remove the wheel and tire.
Hypothetically, you don't even have to have your wheel and tire off and you can do this on the ground, but it's a whole lot easier to jack it up, take the wheel and tire off, and then there's an 8mm bolt that holds your sensor in right here. We'll use an 8mm socket and ratchet to remove that. Once that's off, reach under and kind of twist the sensor a little bit. Work it out, pull it out of this clip, and then pull it out of this clip up here. You can follow the lead right up and you'll feel it connects right here. You should be able to press on the tab here. It may help to bring in a small screwdriver. Press the tab until it comes out. The sensor's off.
Put your replacement in and clip it in. Make sure it clicks. Put this grommet into the bracket on the frame, and this grommet into the bracket on the hose line, and then there's a tab up top. Make sure that goes into place. Press it in a little bit and put your 8mm bolt in place, then tighten it up. Before you tighten up, just make sure it's seated correctly.
Reinstall your wheel and tire. Put the vehicle back on the ground. You want to tighten your lug nuts to 100 foot-pounds using a star pattern.
