Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the coolant overflow bottle on this 2004 Volkswagen Jetta with the 1.8 turbo engine. The items you'll need for this are new coolant overflow bottle from 1AAuto.com, Phillips screwdriver, pliers, locking pliers, a funnel, and coolant.
Your coolant overflow bottle is right here. You just want to push on the tab on the harness and pull it free. Then using pliers, push the teeth on the clamp together and slide it back, and then pull that hose free. Once it's pulled free, you want to just remove these two Phillips screws, and we'll just fast forward as Don does that. Now lift your coolant bottle up and out and just tip it up on its side and using pliers, push the teeth together and slide this clamp down, and then use locking pliers to clamp the hose closed and then move it back and forth until you pull it free.
On the left is the old coolant overflow bottle. On the right is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll fit exactly the same. Take your new coolant overflow bottle and push it down into the hose. Then remove the locking pliers and slide that hose clamp back up and use the pliers to push the teeth in and slide it all the way up into place. Now line up this peg with this hole right down here and just push that down into place. Then re-connect the smaller hose and slide the hose clamp into place. We'll just fast forward as Don replaces those two Phillips screws. Now reconnect your harness and then replace the coolant using a funnel. Once you've filled it to the max fill line, just remove the funnel and take your old cap from your old coolant bottle and just twist it into place on your new one and you're all set.
