Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the power door lock switch. Show you on the driver side, passenger side is pretty much the same procedure. 2006 Ford Explorer same as a 2006 to 2010. What you'll need is a couple of flat blade screwdrivers and a rag.
Remove the side panel, and, using a rag just to protect the door panel, work the screwdriver under there. The clips are a little further inside, so I work it under there pretty well and then pry out. You want to make sure you're pulling straight out on that panel. Pulling up or down could break the clips. Then top of the panel, again, just keep pulling straight out and it will come off. If any of the clips stay behind, they slide off. Then you just press them back into place in the rectangular holes.
Then the switch has four more clips basically near each corner. The outer two ones you can see pretty easily. Then the inner two are just opposite them. First, I just work the screwdriver in there carefully and get those clips to release. Then I can work my screwdriver in and release the inner ones. Then once those are all four released, it comes up. Then there are three connections. They each have a tab that you press with your thumb and pull down.
To remove the switch from the panel, actually, again, you'll see the clips may come out. Slide them off and then put them into place for assembly later. Then using a smaller screwdriver you're going to pry out the little tabs. There's tabs that hold the switch in. You need to keep force down on the switch to make sure that it doesn't pop back up in. There are four tabs again that hold the switch into that panel. Once you get them to release, it will slide down and out.
The door lock switch comes out just like the window switch. I'm pressing down on the top with my thumb and then there are 4 little clips. I use a small screwdriver to release. Probably somebody spilled some coke or something on here because a little sticky and you'll see the switch comes out really quickly once it releases.
Obviously, a new switch goes in. Snap it into place securely and then reconnect all three harnesses. Make sure they make a clicking noise or snapping noise so that you know they're locked. Push and make sure you activate all four tabs.
Then line up the outer panel and install it. It takes a couple of tries, lined it up, make sure it goes in right, look in behind, see the tabs going into the clips. Then once you're confident you have it, push it into place.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
