How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a failing, worn out, or defective PCV valve on 04 Toyota Highlander

step 1 :Removing the PCV Valve
- Remove the 10mm nuts from the engine cover
- Remove the engine cover
- Loosen the spring clamp on the hose
- Pull the hose off
- Loosen the valve with a 22mm wrench

step 2 :Installing the PCV Valve
- Hand-tighten the valve
- Tighten the PCV valve with a 22mm wrench carefully do not over tighten (valve cover is aluminum and can crack easily)
- Connect the hose
- Clamp the hose clamp
- Place the engine cover on
- Tighten the 10mm bolts to the engine cover

Open the hood. We have to pull the release inside the car. It's just inside right around your left knee on the driver's side. Need to release the secondary, or safety release. Just kind of feel around for it. This one is right here. Squeeze up.
I'm going to remove these two top nuts that hold on the appearance cover. They are 10 millimeter, so I'm using a 10 millimeter socket ratchet and extension. Should just thread of real easily. So there's our appearance cover, it's got some foam inside. That's just for noise, just keeps the noise down from the valve train.
PCV valve is located at the rear of the valve cover. It's a little spring clamp. We have to take this off. Going to work this hose off. Hose aside. Take the 22 millimeter wrench and remove it. There's the little PCV valve.
Reinstall it back into the valve cover. Starting it by hand, we take our wrench. Thread it back in. As it starts to get close to being all the way in, be very careful, this is a really large wrench, this is a metal part going into aluminum valve cover. You can easily crack this valve cover if you over-tighten it. So once I feel it get tight, come down on the wrench so I don't have as much leverage, and I'll just tighten it just a little bit more. And that's good enough. If you're out here and you're pulling on it, you could easily over-tighten it, and you'll put a crack right here in the valve cover. Put the hose back on. Put this little squeeze clamp back over. And that's it.
Now I can reinstall the plastic engine cover. I wiped it down with a rag and cleaned some of the dirt off of it. Make it look a little nicer. Get lined up over those studs. Sit right down reinstall the nuts. Actually just do these hand tight. They don't need to be super tight. Job is complete.
