Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing or maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20-plus years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts installed correctly: that's going to save you time and money. Thank you and enjoy the video.
In this video, we're going to show you side rear view mirror replacement on this 2001 PT Cruiser, very similar for any '01 to '05 and pretty much the same as the other years, although removing a door panel differs just a little bit. Tools you'll need are a flat blade screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, 8mm and 10mm sockets with a ratchet and you'll need an extension for a couple of the bolts.
You're going to start by pulling off this panel, and then removing two 10mm bolts underneath here. You can see one there and there's one up in there as well. Then there are four Phillips screws: one there, there, down here and back here. We'll pick up the work pace here as we pry off that panel. Then we'll use a 10mm socket with a ratchet and extension to remove the two bolts in the armrest. Then we use a screwdriver to remove the four Phillips screws, one behind the handle and then around the perimeter of the door. Once you have those screws out, then you can start up here. Just grab on a give a good, quick . actually grab on, pull it out, work your fingers under, work them down, give a quick tug. Work your fingers down further, and tug. Go down further, and around. There goes that screw. Now, we've gotten everything loose. You want to pull your door panel up and off like that. This piece of weatherstrip just goes back onto the car here. There's a clip. I'm not sure if you can see it, but you can just push it down with your thumb. Then this rod pulls out. Then you have a harness connection for your door locks. There's a little tab. Pull it through with my thumb. Pull it off and the door panel's off.
Now, your mirror, is a power metered mirror. Come down, there's a tab on the back side. I'm squeezing that with my finger. Then, pull that right up and out. Now, there's three 8mm bolts here. We'll just do a little fast forward as I remove those three 8mm nuts. The bolts are out. Pull your mirror right up and out.
This here is my original mirror and new mirror from 1A Auto. You can see the new mirror's an exact replacement. It's all the same. The gasket on my original is just bent out a little bit. It's going to bolt in the same. Most importantly it has the same connector. Installation is just a reverse. Just work the connector through. Carefully put it in place. Start our three 8mm nuts. Again, we'll fast forward as I start that last 8mm nut. Just kind of make sure that the mirror is in the right spot. Then tighten them up. You want them to be nice and firm. They don't want to be over-tight. Our connector comes right down. Hooks right in.
To reinstall your door panel, first, you want to reconnect your power door lock switch. Then, put your door lock or your door handle rod back in place and push the panel nice and close to the door and lock the clip back on. Now lift it up into place. Put your door lock button through. Then you want to push your door lock button through. Then push your door panel in to get it into that lip right there. It pretty much goes down into place. Just use the back of your hand. Now, we're going to hit fast forward as we put on the four screws, one behind the door handle, around the perimeter and then the last one down at the back of the door. Then, we'll use our 10mm socket with ratchet and extension. Put the bolts back in under the door handle or armrest and you should be all set.
