step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Lift the cover off of the window crank
- Remove the Torx screw
- Pull the handle off
- Remove the Phillips head screw at the front top corner of the door panel
- Remove the Phillips head screw inside the door pull
- Pry out the door panel with a door panel clip tool or putty knife
- Lift the door panel up and off
- Remove four screws from the speaker
- Pry off the speaker cover
- Disconnect the speaker wiring lead
- Carefully peel off the water shield

step 2 :Removing the Window Regulator
- Remove the three rivets from the regulator with a hammer and punch
- Drill out the middle of the rivets with a 5/16 or 3/8 drill bit while applying light pressure
- Slide the regulator out of the window track
- Raise the window by hand
- Hold the window in place with painter's tape
- Pull the window regulator out through the door

step 3 :Reinstalling the Regulator
- Push the regulator into the door
- Slide the arm of the regulator into the window track
- Remove the painter's tape from the window
- Lower the window onto the regulator
- Insert one of the three 10mm M6 metric bolts to the regulator
- Hang the regulator by its bolt
- Insert the window crank on the door
- Crank the window up
- Remove the window crank
- Insert the two 10mm bolts to the regulator
- Insert the window crank
- Test the window

step 4 :Reinstalling the Door Panel
- Put the water shield into place
- Connect the speaker wiring lead
- Put the speaker into place
- Insert the four screws into the speaker
- Lift the door panel into place
- Push in the door panel clips
- Insert the Phillips head screw at the front top corner of the door panel
- Insert the Phillips head screw inside the door pull
- Replace the window crank
- Replace the Torx screw on the window crank
- Push the cover onto the window crank

In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and replace a manual window regulator in this 1996 Ford F-150. It's pretty much the same for any 1980 to 1996 F-150, 250 or 350. We do this on the driver's front door, but it's the same procedure for the passenger's front door. The tools you'll need include a new regulator from 1AAuto.com, a T20 Torx driver, a Phillips screwdriver, a door panel clip tool or a putty knife will work, a hammer and punch, a drill with a 5/16 or 3/8 drill bit, some tape, and three M6. M6 is the size and they're 1.5 cm long bolts with nuts.
You want to remove the window crank handle. On these Fords, sometimes you can see the screw here. On this particular one, you pull this part of it out and then move it off to the side. This one needs a T20 Torx driver to remove the mounting screw. Pull the handle off. Now, you'll want to remove two Phillips screws. There's one right up in here and one right in the door pull there. Just fast-forward here as I use a Phillips screwdriver to remove those two screws.
Once you have those out, you'll want to take a door panel clip tool and put it right in behind here. There's usually a clip right behind this reflector, so slide it up a little bit further. Then, from here, continue around and release all the clips. If you don't have one of those door panel clip tools, you can actually use a household putty knife it'll work as well. I'm going to fast-forward through this part.
I'm using the same T20 Torx driver that I used to remove the screw for the window crank handle to remove the speaker with four screws, and remember to obviously unplug the speaker and then carefully pull your water shield down to expose the inside of the door. Now, there are three rivets that hold the window regulator in one here and then two down here. What you'll want to do with these rivets is take a punch, and you're going to want to punch the center of the rivet right out. Put it right in the center of that rivet and punch it out. Now, you can see there's the rivet and there's no center. I'll do that for my other two down here.
Now, we're going to use a 5/16 inch drill bit, and we're going to just drill out the middle of these rivets. They're soft aluminum, so you don't have to press hard on them, just run your drill and some light pressure. If need be, just take your punch and punch the rest of the rivet right off. Probably should have used a little bit bigger of a bit, probably a 3/8 bit would have been better. I'm just going to fast-forward here as I drill out my lower two rivets. Once you get those out, hold up right here, this is what's supporting your window.
Then you can bring this down and this slides out of the track and your window. Hold the window up, slide your regulator out, and push your window back up. Then I use some painter's tape just to hold the window up. Now, you can reach down in and take it out.You have to finagle these around and then pull them out. Here's the new regulator from 1A Auto, and we're going to use nuts and bolts.
These are basically M6 metric bolts with 10mm heads and 10mm nuts. I'm just going to feed the regulator down and in. It's just a matter of getting it in. It's a tight spot here. Let's see. I'm just putting this on, and roll it up or just roll the regulator, it just changes the angle a little bit. Work the regulator around and get it right in the door. Now, with the regulator in here, basically just flip it up and get a hold of the arm. Then just take the arm and slide it into the end of the window.
Now, I'm just going to bring the regulator in place over here and then what we'll do is just remove the tape from the window, carefully bring the window down, and that allows my regulator to rotate into place. Put the bolt through this hole up here and one through there. I just want the regulator to go down. Put a nut on this side and slide it down further. I can see my holes are starting to line up down here. I'm going to take this, and I'm going to crank the window up to give me the most room. Take another bolt and put right through there. I see it's coming through. Put a nut on it. I'm going to fast-forward here as I take the third bolt, line it up, get it in that hole, and thread the nut, and then I'll use a 10mm wrench as well as a 10mm socket and ratchet, and I'll tighten those bolts up to hold the regulator in place, and then I'll do a little test to make sure everything's working properly.
Just do a quick little trial run. It's working it well. Then I'll fast-forward here as you put the water shield back up in place, reconnect your speaker and reattach it to the door with the four screws. Now, take your door handle, pull your door handle out, get the panel on there, push the front in here, hold the back up and on, make sure you get the door lock knob through, lift up and go back, push it towards the window, slide it down and on. Then your clips should be pretty much lined up, you've got to peek in the back here. Then put your two screws back in. Now a little washer for your handle goes back on. Put the crank back on with a T20 Torx driver. Speed it up here as I put that screw in and then tighten it up snug you don't want to make it too tight. Then you're all set.
