How to remove and replace the key fob battery for a 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 Subaru Forester
Hi, I’m Mike from 1A Auto. We’ve been selling auto parts for over 30 years!
We're going to change the battery in this Subaru key. There's a little opening here in the key. Take a small, flat headed screwdriver. Going to gently pry it open. It might take a couple tries. If I pry it open, I have to work the screwdriver around the edge. It should separate.
Inside is another self-contained part with the buttons. It's got the little locking tabs all around it. I'm just going to take the small screwdriver and just gently pry them up. Then try to keep them separated as I go around it. Just like that. Get this one. Pull it apart. There's the buttons and our little circuit board. Battery is sitting here. Just take the small screwdriver, pop it up. Whoops. This is a 1620 battery.
This one's working so we're going to reuse it. So you take your new battery with the positive side, push it down. Take the top part of this, line it up the way it went together before. Snap it down. Push this into the housing. It fits like that. Put the other half in. That is our key fab with the battery replaced.
