Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the serpentine belt idler puller on this Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 liter. Same procedure for many SUVs and trucks with a 5.3 liter. All you need is 15mm socket and ratchet.

The first thing you want to do is put a 15mm socket on to that tensioner right there and push down on the ratchet. That'll loosen up the serpentine belt so you can pull it off all the pulleys. With the serpentine belt out of the way, you can now use that 15mm socket and ratchet to loosen up the bolt in the center of the idler pulley, then you just want to twist that the rest of the way off, and it pulls right off.

Take your new one and spin it back into place, and then you're gonna use your socket and ratchet to tighten that up the rest of the way. Now, to put the belt back on, you're gonna want to use this belt diagram, just so you can make sure that you got everything right. Right now, you're working with the black lines, not the red one. That's just the AC belt. That's a separate belt.

Now, we're just gonna show you as he puts the belt back on. Again, it's kind of hard to see what order he's doing it in. So, it definitely helps to have that belt diagram, and use that as a reference, but you want to get it up over your alternator so all that's left is to get it down underneath that idler pulley, and then you want to put that 15mm socket on your tensioner, push down on the ratchet, and then push the serpentine belt down underneath the idler pulley, and your all set.
