What's up, guys? I'm Andy from 1A Auto. In this video, I'm going to show you how to replace the horns on this 2001 BMW 325Xi. If you need parts for your vehicle, click the link in the description and head over to 1AAuto.com.
I raised the vehicle, we're using a two-post lift. If you're doing this at your house, you can use a jack and jack stand. I'm going to remove the tire to gain extra access. It's going to make it a little bit easier. I'm going to use the 17 millimeter socket and then air gun. You could always use a breaker bar. Take these lug nuts off. Take these lug nuts off. Or lug studs out, take the last one out and grab the wheel, pull it off.
We're going to take these screws out. I'm going to use an eight millimeter socket and a ratchet. There should be a shield that goes right here. This vehicle does not have it, it's missing on this vehicle. I'm going to take this screw out. There should be two screws or pushpins that go right there. So this one happens to be a Phillips head screw. Take this out. This piece can slide right down. There is a connector right here. Disconnect that connector. Push down. That whole sensor just came right out. Pull this part down. And we'll do the same with the other side.
Disconnect the fog light bulb, push down on the connector, slide it out like that. I'm just going to take a trim tool and from the inside, just get behind here. Just be careful not to ruin the paint. Pry out and we can slide it out, just like that. This little pin, right there, attaches in there. And I'll do the same for the other side.
With a 10-millimeter socket and a ratchet, I'm going to go in through where the fog light goes, take this nut off right here, loosen it up. Take this nut off. Just grab the horn. Just wiggle it back and forth a little bit, slide it out. You can disconnect the connector right here, just push down on the tab, slide it out. And the procedure to remove the driver side horn would be the same.
To reinstall the horn, let's connect the connector. Get that lined up, lock it in place and then we'll position the horn so the stud goes through the bumper right there, just like that. Take the nut, get the nut started. Get the 10-millimeter socket and the ratchet, tighten this up. We're going to install this inner fender wheel, take this little sensor here. This is going to slide back in position here, just like that. Slide this underneath here. Just like that. This is going to connect right there.
There's a piece that's supposed to go across right here. In this vehicle, it's broken, so you're going to want to line that up. Install the bolts or the screws. Take an eight millimeter socket and a ratchet and tighten these down. Going to reinstall this screw that goes right here. Here's probably has some push pins that go right there. Yeah, it goes through there and there, and then also if you have that underbody shield right here, you're going to install that. There should be screws that hold that in place. This vehicle does not have that.
Connect the connector, just line it up, lock it in place. Line these two tabs up over here. Once those are lined up, make sure that pin is lined up in the back there and then push right there, lock it in place. Slide the wheel in position. I'm going to take my 17-millimeter socket and the lug stud, and get one started. Then I can grab the other ones.
Now I'm going to use a 17-millimeter socket and a torque wrench, and I'm going to torque lug bolts in a star pattern to 95 per pounds. Go right around again. Just make sure everything's tight.
