Here are the items you'll need for this repair: flat blade screwdriver, pipe, locking pliers

Normally, you'll be replacing the hood struts on your vehicle because they've failed and won't support the hood. Before beginning the project, prop your hood with something. I found this piece of pipe around the shop. You can use a variety of things, like a broom handle or if you're replacing both of your hood struts, you can clamp a pair of vice grips onto one of them to support the hood while you replace the other. Just don't clamp the new ones because scoring them will damage the insides of the strut.

Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry out on the retainer on the back of the hood strut and remove it from the ball socket. We'll do the same thing on the bottom here.

The new part will simply go over the ball socket. Press into place, make sure it's on there nice and secure. Move on to replacing the other side. Once you've replaced your hood struts, remove whatever you used as a prop. Check that they support the hood properly. You're good to go.
