In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the hood support strut on this 1995 Honda Accord, same as any '94 to '97 Accord. The only tool you'll need is a 12mm wrench. Replacing these hood struts is really quite easy. If your hood struts are going bad you might notice in the winter time, generally, when they're cold or they have a little less lift pressure, so your hood can sag a little bit, and if your hood struts are really bad, you'll probably be familiar with this little thing, your own custom-made wooden hood support. Obviously, you want to be supporting the hood because as you take these off, obviously, the hood's going to want to come down because these are holding it up.

Nothing more than a 12mm wrench and you twist these ball and sockets out right here. Then, there's a second one down here. My support strut's off. Make sure you retain these washers, just to make sure that your new one comes with all the hardware. The support struts on this car are actually in good shape. Reinstall make sure you have the silver part of the cylinder facing up. I usually thread the bottom one in first a little bit. Make sure it's good and started here. What you want to do at the top is take your hand and you might actually even drop out your support. Mine is going to fall here. There is goes. You need to move the hood up and down a little bit so you get this in nice and straight. What it's doing is really supporting the hood. Then, tighten them up a little bit a few turns. Make sure it's in there well. Then, let the weight of the hood down on it. You replace your hood struts, and hopefully, your hood won't be sagging so much.
