How to Replace High Mount Third Brake Light 2005-10 Volkswagen Jetta

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the third brake light on this 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. It's the same part and similar process on these Jettas from 2005 to 2007. The items you'll need for this include a new third brake light from 1AAuto.com and a pair of needle nose pliers.

First thing you want to do is pull down this panel. Pull sharply to release each of the clips. If any of the clips got left behind, just use a pair of pliers to grip onto them and pull them out. Once you've pulled each of them out, just slide them back into this slots on this panel.

Now to release the third brake light, just push up on it and slide it forward. If one side releases before the other, just pull it back a little bit without re-clipping it. This will make the other side easier to pull out.

Once it's free, you want to just lift up on this tab to release the harness, and then the harness slides out.

Up top is the old third brake light; below is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're a little different, but they'll still fit exactly the same.

Slide your new third brake light up into place. Just want to line up those clips and slide it straight back. Make sure it's fully clipped in. If it isn't, clip it in. Once it's all the way in place, just slide that harness back in.

Line up the panel and just hit it back into place.
