Created on: 2011-07-29

Watch this video to learn how to replace and service the headlight assembly and bulbs on your 97-99 Cadillac Deville.

  1. DO NOT TOUCH the bulbs- the oil from your fingers will burn into the light and foul your bulb. Clean with rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth if the bulbs do get touched.

step 1 :Remove the headlight assembly
    • Unbolt the parking light using a 7 mm socket and extension and ratchet or an A8 star bit.
    • Pull out the parking light assembly and unplug the bulbs and wiring harness.
    • Remove the two nuts and two bolts anchoring the headlight assembly using your 10 mm socket, ratchet and extensions.
    • Pull the headlight assembly out and unplug the wiring harness and bulbs.
    • Swap the wiring harness over to the new head light assembly.
  2. step 2 :Install the Headlight assembly
    • Plug in the wiring harness back in.
    • Bolt in the headlight assembly using your 10 mm socket and ratchet and extensions.
    • Plug in the parking light wiring harness.
    • Bolt the parking light assembly into place using your 7mm socket and ratchet or A8 star bit.
  3. step 3 :Aim your headlights.
    • Use a Phillips screwdriver to aim the headlights.
    • The concentration of the low beam should be an inch below the height of the bulb at 20ft away.

Hi, I'm Mike Green. I'm one of the owners of 1A Auto. I want to help you save time and money repairing and maintaining your vehicle. I'm going to use my 20+ years experience restoring and repairing cars and trucks like this to show you the correct way to install parts from 1AAuto.com. The right parts, installed correctly. That's going to save you time and money. Thank you, and enjoy the video.

In this video, I'm going to show you headlight replacement on this 97 Cadillac Seville, same as any 97 to 99. Tools you'll need are an E8 star socket, or you could substitute a 7 mm socket. You will also need a ratchet and extension, as well as a 10 mm socket, with a ratchet and extension, and a Phillips screwdriver to adjust the lights.

First, you're going to want to take your panel and just pull up a little bit. If you're just looking to replace the bulbs it's easier to remove the whole assembly. I'm going to stop it right here. I was hoping to show you that you could just service the bulbs without removing the headlights, but what I actually found was with my big hands, I really couldn't manipulate the bulbs out of the sockets. Maybe, if you have smaller hands, you are able to do that, but what I found is it's actually easier just to remove the whole headlight assembly to get to the headlight bulbs. Removing the headlight assembly is not that difficult.

Right down there, remove this bolt. Technically, the right tool is an E8 star bit. You can actually use a 7 mm socket, something that more people have in their toolbox. You stick your finger right in here to lift it up and out. Pull the light forward, and then out. If you're just looking to change your bulbs, this one has a little thumb tab, counterclockwise. There is the bulb, right over here. Once that is out of the way, there are two bolts and two nuts to remove. There are two nuts right there, top and bottom. There is one here, and then one down here. I will use a ratchet with a large extension, a 10mm. You don't really need this long of an extension.

We are just going to speed up here as I remove those two nuts and two bolts. Now you can pull the headlight forward. Now, if you're just looking to service the bulbs, behind the headlight, you twist, and then just pull out. Then they unplug right here. These lower bulbs, the same thing, a little thumb tab right there. The thumb tab twists, remove. The bulb just pulls out, and pushes back in.

If you're looking, because you broke your assembly, what you can do is you can disconnect your entire harness assembly here. I'm going to pull out this safety tab, and then push on this tab here and disconnect it. The whole assembly comes out. The old headlight, new assembly from 1A Auto. This is a pretty low mileage car, so the headlights are still in good shape. You can still even see that the 1A Auto one is much clearer.

Now, you want to switch over your harness. It has a little clip here. Just reuse the clip, push it through. I'm going to fast-forward here. Basically, you are just swapping the harness over to the new headlight. You want to undo the clips, undo the connections to the headlights, and then remove the harnesses that go into the signals. Then, transfer it all over the same way to your new light.

Now, that light is back in place. I'm just going to speed up through putting those two nuts back on, and then the two bolts. I always start the nuts and bolts first, start all of them, and then go through and tighten them up afterwards. We will complement it as well with a new parking light from 1A Auto.

Once the new light is installed, you can use a Phillips screwdriver. This adjusts side to side. Counterclockwise points the light more to the right, on this side. There is an adjusting mechanism here. You want to have this ball in the middle. You turn this screw here; figure out which way it is. It wants to go down a little bit. The car has to be on a level surface. Comparing to the original light, right there on the line is about where it should be. Actually, the bubble, you might want to have a little further forward. Once it is in and tight, put your panel in place. Last, but certainly not least, plug that in and close the hood.
