Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks!

In this video, we're going to show you how to service the bulbs as well as replace the entire headlight assembly on this 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. The items you'll need for this include new headlights from 1AAuto.com, a Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, and T25 and T30 Torx drivers.

In this video, we're going to start out by showing you how to replace the bulbs. We also just want to take a second to show you what new lights can do for your car. They take, basically, miles off the front end. You can see old headlights are milky and cloudy, and then your new headlights from 1A Auto are nice and clear and take miles off the front end of your vehicle.

Start off by popping your hood, then reach down underneath here, push up on the tab, and lift the hood up. First, we're just going to show you how to change the bulbs and rather than trying to just do it here, I'll show you on the light that's out of the car just to make it easier. The outside bulb, the low beam, just a large door, just twist it counterclockwise and it comes off. The bulb is inside and you twist counterclockwise and it pulls out. When it goes back in, there's a little thing that says top" and rotate it and you would put the cover back on.

There's the inner one which is right here. Pretty easy to get to, and I'll show you on this; pull it off and then there's a connector here, pull on it to disconnect it, you might have to work it back and forth a little bit. Then there's a wire retainer which there's two different styles. There's this style which is just a single. You can see I push on it and pull it to the side, or actually up, and the wire retainer comes off and the bulb comes out. If you look down in here, it's hard to see, but the wire retainer is a little different. Push in on it and over to the side and it would come out.

Back to the one you can see. You can see that the bulb has a little relief at the bottom, just make sure that lines up. Sometimes the wires get caught up, and then put the tab back down and lock it into place. Reconnect your harness and put your boot back on. Then there's another bulb right down here, pretty easy to show you. Just turn it counterclockwise and it comes out, and then the bulb, counterclockwise to take it out. Just work it back in and lock it in place.

If you want to replace the entire headlight assembly, then you just start off by taking off these two grille and also have to remove the bumper cover. Underneath the grille are two Phillips screws, remove those. Now push in these tabs and then pry the grille up and there's one tab on either side. Before doing the other tab, you want to make sure that the grille is pulled up on this side so it just won't snap back in, release that side, and your grille will pull free.

Now remove this T25 screw right here, and then these four T25 screws below it in the wheel well. We'll fast-forward as Mike removes those. Then you want to repeat this process on the other side. Now remove these two T30 Torx screws. Now, along the bottom of your bumper, you'll see this series of T25 screws, just go ahead and remove all of those. Now push in your side marker lights, pry out the back, and then it will pull free. Then you can just pull the bulb out. After you've done that on both sides, just start pulling out on the bumper cover. Then reach back and disconnect the harness clip from either side, and then your bumper cover's free.

Now the headlight is held in with three T25 Torx screws, just go ahead and remove all three of those. To disconnect it, there's a tab that you pull back with your thumb and disconnect. Then twist the headlight, angle it, and pull it out. On the right is the old headlight; on the left is the new one from 1A Auto. You can see they're identical and they'll fit exactly the same.

Take your new headlight and angle it back into place. Then, once you've got it lined up, replace the screw at the top. You actually adjust the headlight using these here, and you can put your screws in and get them started, but then you want to adjust these and not adjust the beam of the headlight, you can obviously use a wrench to do it. I would start with them, basically, in the same position as your old ones were.

To properly angle, park your car about 20 feet away on a level surface from the wall, and on the left side the headlights should concentrate about an inch below where they sit on the car on the wall at 20 feet. The passenger's side, the same level. Then just reconnect the harness once you've installed the lights.

Now we'll fast-forward as Mike pushes the bumper cover back into place, and then replaces those two T30 screws at the front and tightens them up. Then replace the five T25 screws in the wheel well on either side. Now reach down behind your side marker light, and just pull the harness up and feed it through. Then reclip it onto that lip on the bumper cover, and then repeat this process on the other side. Now reconnect the wire to the side marker light, and then push the front in first and then the back. Then replace this series of T25 screws on the bottom of the bumper.

Take your new grille and line up these two tabs into these two slots. Just push the grille back into place and then snap it back in at the top. We'll fast-forward as Mike replaces those two T25 screws and then the two Phillips screws on the bottom of the grille. You want to make sure that you push the grille and bumper together so that the screw will go all the way through.

Now to show you the difference that new headlights can make, here's the old headlights, and here's the new headlights. You can see it makes the vehicle look a lot younger and newer. Again, here's the old and here's the new.
