Hi, I'm Don from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and the next time you need a part for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the rear hatch support pistons on this 1996 Chevy Tahoe. This is pretty much the same for any Tahoe, Yukon, Yukon XL, or Suburban that has the rear tailgate and lifting rear glass. We're going to show you on the left side, but the right side is the same procedure. We do recommend you do this in pairs. You'll need new support pistons from 1AAuto.com and a small flat blade screwdriver, as well as somebody or something to hold up the glass while you're doing the repair.
There's just clips that go around the end. You pry the clip out with a small screwdriver. Again, have somebody helping you hold it up. Pry the clip out. Pull the piston off, and then do the same thing for the other end. Here, you can see there's the original one on top.
The new one from 1A Auto is on the bottom. It's going to install just the same as the original. Put the piston and push it onto the stud. Then you might have to turn it a little bit to get it to line up. Push the other end on, do the other side, and you're all set.
