How to Replace Hatch Struts 2010-14 Volkswagen GTI

How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a weak or sagging hood or hatch strut on 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 Volkswagen GTI.

  1. step 1 :Removing the Hatch Support Strut
    • Have an assistant hold the hatch
    • Pry out the retainer on the hatch with a pick
    • Repeat for the lower side
    • Remove the strut
  2. step 2 :Installing the Hatch Support Strut
    • Insert the hatch strut into place
    • Press the hatch into place

Open the trunk. To replace the hood struts, it's easiest to use a right angle tool. You're going to want to hold the trunk lid or have a partner hold it for you. Push in the retainer here. It will pull right out. Do the same on this side. It pulls right out.

To install this rear lift gate hood struts, we're going to line it up at the ball and socket, and push right on. Same with this side. Push it right in. The passenger side is the same as the driver's.
