Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the glove box latch in a 2005 Cadillac CTS.
The items you'll need for this repair are a new glove box latch from 1AAuto.com, a straight pick tool, and a small Phillips head screwdriver.
Open your glove box and remove these two Phillips head screws. You're going to need a stubby Phillips head screwdriver to get in here. Be sure to put those somewhere where you're not going to lose them. Support the latch while you remove the last screw, and then the latch will pull down and out.
Here we have our old part that we removed from the vehicle and our new part from 1AAuto.com. As you can see, these parts are identical. The only thing we're going to have to do is change over the lock cylinder from our old latch into the new one.
In order to change the lock over, we'll have to use our key. Turn it one click to the right. You'll see a tab in this little hole on the side when our key is straight up and down, and at the side that little pin appears. Use a small straight pick to push that down. Continue rotating the key around, at which point the lock cylinder pops out. Careful not to disturb the tumblers.
Install this into the new latch and rotate it around 180 degrees. Now our latch is ready to go back into the vehicle. Reinstall the latch into the glove box door. Line up your two Phillips head screws and tighten them down ‘til they're snug with the stubby Phillips head screwdriver. Make sure that these go in straight and even, that you don't over-tighten them, as they're only going into plastic and it can crack very easily. Once the latch is in, close the glove box, and check for proper operation of the latch as well as the lock.
Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
