Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the fuel filler neck in a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. We've put ours on a lift to make it easier to show you what you're doing, but this job can easily be done from the ground.

Here are the items you'll need for this repair: safety glasses, flatblade, drill, drill bits, rivet gun, rivets

Locate the base of the fuel filler neck. It will be under the driver side of the bed, just before the rear tire. Going to want to wear safety glasses here, because you're working around fuel. Undo the clamp on the fill tube. You may need to use the screwdriver to pry under the bottom of the hose. Break it free of the metal filler neck. You can also do this with a large hose pick if you have one, or you can try to twist it by hand, as well as with a pair of pliers if necessary. Just want to be very careful not to tear through the hose in the process.

To release the quick connect bent line, we'll have to push down here. Pull back to remove the fitting. Open the gas door and remove the cap. You'll see that there are four small rivets securing the filler neck into the bed here. We'll have to drill those out to remove our old filler neck. We're using a 1/8 drill bit and a drill. We want to drill out the center of the rivet until the head separates. Drill out the last rivet, and remove the filler neck from the truck.

Here we have our old part that we removed from our truck and our new part from 1AAuto.com. As you can see, both parts are exactly the same. We have the same vent tube on the side here, the same main filler neck, the same opening with the same cuts to install our fuel cap, as well as the same plate and four bolts to install the rivets. It's very common for these to rot out, cause a fuel leak or a gas smell, especially when filling up. This new part from 1A Auto is going to go in, direct fit just like your original equipment, and fix you up right.

Reinstall your filler neck into the truck, line up the holes. These are offset so they'll only fit one way. Install your first rivet. Reinstall your gas cap. Close the fuel door. Reinstall the quick connect line until it snaps into place. Reinstall the rubber filler tube and the hose clamp. We'll tighten it down with a flat blade screwdriver.

Thanks for tuning in. We hope this video helped you out. Next time you need parts for your car, please visit 1AAuto.com. Also check out our other helpful how-to and diagnosis videos.
