In this video, we're going to replace the fuel filler neck. A common problem, it will set your check engine light off and it will flash a code that says that your gas cap needs to be replaced. The tools you'll need are a Phillips screwdriver and either a flat blade screwdriver or some various sized sockets and I use, actually, a pair of vise grips because the clamps on my filler neck hoses are a little bit rusty.
Figure out the locking gas cap, and we're able to remove the gas cap. There are three screws. I'm going to speed up through removing those screws. They are a little difficult; you want to make sure you have a good screwdriver with a good head on it that doesn't slip in the screws at all. As you can see, I changed positions to get a little better leverage on it as well, pushing the screwdriver in and turning. Right up here, you can see it's held on with clamps and they're regular screwdriver or 7 millimeter, by looks. If you can get a wrench on them, you always want to get a wrench on them. They're a little bit rusty. I'm probably going to replace those. To make a long story short here, I tried the socket, a few different sizes, and it ended up that the top one, I was able to get with a screw driver. It was pretty difficult, but I was able to get a screwdriver into the slot pretty well and loosen it up. Then, you'll see in a few seconds what I did with the bottom one. From the vise grips, grab on to enough. Once I got it going with the vise grips, I was able to put a screw driver in it and loosen it up the rest of the way. Now, you do have to be careful. If you lower these down lower than your gas, you could get gas coming out of them. I know my tank is just about empty.
We'll take a couple of new clamps. Put them on, bring this down. It kind of goes up here like that. Let's make sure we drive the fill up close to where it needs to go. The tricky part here is you have to force the screw down in. If you have a helper to hold it, it makes it easier to hold the neck up and them somebody up top forces the screw in and gets it started. Then, once it's started it's pretty easy. Fast forward as I start the other two screws in and then tighten them up nice and firm.

A fuel tank filler neck connects the fuel tank to the spot on your vehicle where you insert the gas pump nozzle. If the filler neck has leaks or pinholes, you may lose fuel as you pump, or get EVAP system trouble codes.
