step 1 :Disconnecting the Fuel Pump Fuse
- Start the vehicle
- Remove the fuel pump fuse
- Let the engine die

step 2 :Disconnecting the Fuel Lines
- Have a drain pan ready
- Pry off the tab on the fuel line
- Pull off the fuel line
- Pry off the clip on the second fuel line
- Pull off the fuel line

step 3 :Removing the Fuel Filter
- Loosen the hose clamp on the fuel filter
- Slide the fuel filter out
- Let the fuel drain

step 4 :Installing the New Fuel Filter
- Insert the fuel filter into place
- Tighten the clamp on the filter with a flat blade screwdriver

step 5 :Connecting the Fuel Lines
- Connect the fuel lines to the filter
- Push in the clips on the lines if they don't click into place

step 6 :Connecting the Fuel Pump Fuse
- Push the fuel pump fuse into place

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the fuel filter on this 2002 Ford Escape. The items you'll need for this is a flat blade screwdriver and a drip pan.
It's a little bit hard to show you the first step on this vehicle because the vehicle doesn't run properly. The first thing that you want to do is start your vehicle, then pull out the fuel pump fuse. As the engine runs out of gas, it will just shut down. This will release the fuel pressure. We have the vehicle lifted, but you don't need to do that. We just do that to make it easier to show you the process
You want to come under here, underneath the driver's side, and just pry out this tab. When you get it down to a certain point, you can just pull that line free. Make sure you have a drip pan underneath the fuel filter. Up here, you want to push the tabs at the top and feed the clip down. Then you can pry it down a little bit more with the flat blade screwdriver. Then just maneuver it up and down while pulling it and it will pull free.
Now, use your flat blade screwdriver to loosen up this clamp. Then you can just slide the fuel filter out. Then just let it drain out in your drip pan.
Take your new fuel filter and feed it back into place. You can reconnect this line right here. Then when you get it into place, reconnect the other line. If the other line doesn't click into place, you may need to pry that clip back down and push it in, and then push the clip back in. Then just tighten up this clamp, replace your fuel pump fuse, then you're all set.
