How To Replace Front Inside Door Handle 2003-07 Saturn Ion

How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a broken or snapped off interior door handleon 03, 04, 05, 06, and 07 Saturn Ion models.

step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Pry off the triangular trim piece at the front top corner
- Remove the two Phillips head screw inside the door pull
- Remove the Phillips head screw at the bottom right corner of the door panel
- Pry off the center and remove the retaining clips on the end of the door panel
- Pry off the door lock switch
- Disconnect the lock switch wiring harness
- Pry up the mirror switch
- Disconnect the mirror switch wiring harness
- Pull up the switch panel
- Disconnect the window switch wiring harnesses
- Pry out the door panel with a door panel clip tool or putty knife
- Lift the door panel up and off

step 2 :Removing the Inside Door Handle
- Remove the Phillips screw from the inside door handle
- Disconnect the door lock rod
- Disconnect the door handle rod

step 3 :Installing the New Inside Door Handle
- Insert the green-marked rod into the door lock
- Insert the door handle rod into place
- Tighten the Phillips screw to the interior door handle

step 4 :Reinstalling the Door Panel
- Lift the door panel into place
- Push in the door panel clips
- Connect the window switch wiring harnesses
- Push in the switch panel
- Connect the mirror switch wiring harness
- Push in the mirror switch
- Connect the lock switch wiring harness
- Push in the door lock switch
- Tighten the Phillips head screw at the bottom right corner of the door panel
- Tighten the two Phillips head screw inside the door pull
- Push on the triangular trim piece at the front top corner
- Push in the two retaining clips on the end of the door panel

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace the front inside door handle on this 2003 Saturn Ion same as any '03 to '07. The only tools you'll need include a Phillips screwdriver and a flat blade screwdriver.
On the front door panel, there's a panel up here. You can use your hands or use a screwdriver. It just pops off. Then there are three screws to remove: two right there in your door pull, and then one right down here on the corner. Then there are two clips to pull out. You pry underneath here, pull the center out, and then pry the clip out. I'm just going to speed up as I use a Phillips screwdriver to take out those three screws. Tighten these clips. You just pry out on the center and pull those out. When you pull it all the way off, the clip comes out. The same thing down here. Then just put the clip back together for the next time around.
You've got to carefully go in behind your door lock switch. Then just pry it out. It comes out. It's just a little tab. Use a flat-blade screwdriver. Just work it in there a little bit. That just cracks. The same thing with your mirror switch here. Pry up the light lead. Then there's a tab right here that you pull back.Then the switch unhooks, and this whole panel comes up. There are little tabs on these connectors. Press the tab with your thumb, pull it down. The same thing for this blue one, press the tab. Sometimes you might use a screwdriver and push on the tab where it's locked. Pry up and then it disconnects.
At this point, you can just start up at this top corner and pull down to the two clips down underneath. Work your hands underneath. It gives a good quick tug. Then the tail comes up and off. Remove your door handle. There's one screw right here. Remove that. Slide the handle forward and then it comes out. For the rods, just move your handle like this while you're forcing those rods out. Tilt your handle up and try and spin it. It comes off. You can see how the rods are. They're shaped like hooks so the panel just comes off like that.
Then with reinstallation, the rod with the green marks is your lock, so put this one in the bottom. Work this one into your lock button. And as we go on, it goes on quite a bit easier. Put the handle into the door, slide it back, and put your screw back in.
Now, put on your door panel. Put the harnesses up through. You want harnesses to have power locks. Tilt your panel up, press it under the window ledge, and down into place. Put this trim back on. Put the screws in. Bring back the window harness. Put back the mirror harness. Down in front slides in first. Then that pops in. Reconnect the lock harness. Just make sure you put it in here the right way. Now one side is a little more rounded. It goes in the panel like that. Put our screws back in. Last but not least, put these in and lock them into place.
