Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.

In this video, we show you how to remove and reinstall an inside door handle, front inside door handle on this 2003 Subaru Outback. Pretty easy procedure. Only tools you'll need include a flat blade screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver.

Start with the flat blade screwdriver. There is a little pin here. Reach under carefully, pry it out. Okay, pull that out. Right up here this triangle, it carefully pries off. Okay, your switch plate is here. If you want, use a cloth under here to protect the vinyl. Pry it up at the bottom and then pry up at the top. Pull this up and out, and there are two harnesses: one here, press this little tab with your thumb and disconnect. Then here is a little tab, again, press with your thumb. The switch plate comes off.

Again, with a flat blade screwdriver, there's a little plug here. Now there are Phillips screws: one here and one back in here. I'll just speed it up here as I just remove those two Phillips screws. Then, once you have those screws out, you can actually just kind of reach right in here with your finger at the bottom corner. Pull firmly and quickly. Pull out on the ends here. On this side, make sure it's all pulled off. Then again something I forgot here, use your flat blade screwdriver. Carefully pry the bezel around your door handle. That comes off. Pull your door panel out, lift it up. Then there's just one more harness right here. Pull it up away from the door panel, then off.

To remove the inside door handle, there's a little trap door in here. Use a flat blade screwdriver, reach in, and pull it back. Then there's a Phillips screw underneath. You can actually pull that trap door right out. Undo this Phillips screw. It'll fall out. Grab it there. Slide the door handle back and then out. Now these rods, you kind of pull the door handle out like this, and lift up on the bottom rod. Then pull that out. Then turn the door handle like this and lift up on that upper rod and bring it out.

Reinstallation's pretty much the reverse of the procedure. Kind of have it twisted a little bit like that. Put this in, and you can actually look down right through a hole. See the rod go in, press it down, bring into place. This one's a little more difficult. Push it in, and you really kind of have to force it over. It's a little bit blind; you can actually kind of look right through this crack here. Work that rod into place. Kind of twist the handle a little bit. Then make sure it goes down all the way. Then make sure there's a little kind of locking clip, make sure that goes up over the rod and back on. Put the handle into place, slide it forward. Make sure the rods are all working correctly. Take your Phillips screw, put it back on.

Okay, to reinstall the door panel just make sure you plug in your courtesy light. Then bring that door panel up, a little higher than it goes. Make sure it hangs on the window sill correctly. Kind of look here at your door handle and make sure it's lined up correctly. Then push your clips in gently at first, and then just apply a little more pressure. Push them in, right around the edge of the door panel. Put this trim back on. Put this triangle piece back in place. Put this piece back in the door handle if you took that apart. Reinstall your two screws. Push this little pin back in. It does just take a little bit of pressure to lock it in place. Take your switch panel, this wire goes through there. Make sure you fish this wire to the top here. Plug that in there and this in there. Take this, push it right down, back into place. Last but not least, this little plug goes back in place.
