How To Replace Front Inside Door Handle 1998-2001 Nissan Altima

How to repair, install, fix, change or replace a broken or snapped off interior door handleon 98, 99, 00, and 01 Nissan Altima models.

step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Pry off the trim piece at the front top corner of the door panel with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pry up the window switch panel with a flat blade screwdriver
- Disconnect the window switch wiring harnesses
- Pry off the trim piece inside the door pull with a flat blade screwdriver
- Remove the Phillips head screw inside the door pull
- Pry off the door handle bezel with a flat blade screwdriver
- Pry out the door panel
- Lift the door panel up and off

step 2 :Removing the Inside Door Handle
- Pry off the trim piece inside the door handle with a flat blade screwdriver
- Remove the Phillips head screw inside the door handle
- Slide the handle back and out
- Disconnect the lock rod from the pink clip
- Push down on the tab to disconnect the rod from the handle

step 3 :Installing the New Door Handle
- Push the rod onto the tab while pushing up to lock it in place
- Push the handle into place
- Push the lock rod into the pink clip
- Insert the Phillips screw into the door handle
- Push on the trim piece inside the door handle

step 4 :Reinstalling the Door Panel
- Lift the door panel into place
- Push in the door panel clips
- Push in the trim piece at the front top corner of the door panel
- Connect the window switch wiring harnesses
- Push in the window switch panel
- Insert the Phillips head screw inside the door pull
- Push in the trim piece inside the door pull
- Push on the door handle bezel

In this video, we're going to show you how to replace a front inside door handle on this 2000 Nissan Altima. It's pretty much the same as any 1998 to 2001 Altima. The only tools you'll need are a small flat blade screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver. We do this on the driver side, but the passenger side is basically the same procedure.
Okay, to remove your door panel, first use a small screwdriver. Carefully pry up here and pull this corner straight off. Then you would go under here and pry straight up firmly on your switch panel. Turn it over and there's a button right here. Press that button. Disconnect your switch panel. Use a small screwdriver, and there's just a little trim button down here. Pry it up. As you can see there's a Phillips screw right there. Just fast-forward as I remove that screw and then pull that door pull cup up and out.
You can see on this panel - you can see mine's broken already, so it makes it a little easier to come off. Basically, there are four tabs. You want to pry in between this back part in the tab. Pull out on the bezel at the same time and pull it off. Grab hold and pull firm on the bottom. Lift the panel off. There's a button, trim button right in here. Remove that. There's a Phillips screw.
Now your handle just slides back and out. Pull this lower level out of here. This clip, you pry up with the screwdriver and off. Lift this clip up and off and pull that out. Now what you want to do is pull it out far enough so that you can twist it in like this. This rod flips up and off. Okay, and to get this out, what you can do is reach in right here and there's a little tab. Push down that tab and bring this rod right down and off.
To put it back together, this rod goes in. You just push it right in and down on top of that tab. Push it up and that tab locks it in place. Take this rod like that. Pull your handle back through the water shield here. Put the tab in place and slide it forward. You put these things back in case, put it back there first. Put that back down and on.
With that back in place, put your water shield back on in place. Clip this back in. Put your panel back on. Just make sure that your harness comes up through. Lift it into the right place against the window and down.
