How To Replace Front Grille 1999-2004 Honda Odyssey

In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall the front grille of this 2003 Honda Odyssey. Same procedure for any '99 to '04 Odyssey. Our van didn't really need a new one, so we just took the old one off and put it back on to show you how it's done. The only tools you need for this are a flatbed screwdriver, and then you'll need a 8millimeter and 10-millemeter socket and ratchet. Actually 8-millemeter and 10-millimeter wrenches will work as well.

You open up the hood of your van. There are 11 clips. These clips are pretty easy; just use a flatbed screwdriver. I kind of pry from underneath. Pry on one side, pry on the other. Sometimes they're a little hard to get going. Then either the middle comes out -- the middle came out on that one --- and the clip comes out, or sometimes you have to pry the whole clip out. Let's do another one here. This one. Pop the middle up, and the whole clip came out on that one. Okay, so there's one, two, three, four, five -- I'm missing one there - six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven of those clips. I'm just going to fast forward here as I remove those clips. Sometimes, sand and stuff can get into them and make them hard to pry up. Just be careful; you don't want to break the tops of them off. I just, kind of, pry on one side. Carefully, pry on another side, and then go to the next one. Okay, now looking up underneath the van, you'll find some of the same clips. There should be four of them. One, two a third and a fourth here that are missing. Once again, fast forward. This is where you'll really find that they can dumped up and mocked up with sand and are hard to get out. I actually think on this one, I ended up prying one of them out and breaking it off because it doesn't really come out the right way.

Now on each side near the wheel, there's a 10-millimeter bolt right down here. Okay. Then up inside the fender more, there's an 8-millimeter bolt right up in here. Again, fast forward. I use a 10-millimeter socket and ratchet, or wrench will work as well. On this vehicle, that 10-millimeter bolt, is rusted into the clip so it just actually ends up tearing the plastic underneath. That's something that might happen. There's really no way to prevent it. Then I go and do the 8-millimeter bolt, and it comes out no problem. Repeat that for the other side.
I'm ready to remove the bottom cover. Pull out. Push down a little bit. Pull out. Actually this cover comes off. Hold it on the other side. Carry way out. Think of some vehicles; they have fan weights. You have fan weights, you want to reach in there and disconnect them.

Okay, to remove the grille, there are just three more of these little clips. Again, use your screwdriver. I'll fast forward here as I struggle with those clips a little bit. Just pop in the center and zap it out. Then remove the clips. Here, because I can get to it, I use the screwdriver and just push the top from the bottom. Again, continue to fast forward as I remove those clips.
The re-installation is pretty simple. Make sure it does have there are little clips on here. Slide it in underneath. Slide this on correctly. You get the clips. It's a good idea to pulls the center right out, makes this much easier. Just down in. It's also a great idea to turn them so you can get the screwdriver easily the next time if you want to or if you need to. Hopefully you don't need to part them out again. Slide this right in. Let's lock these.

Here I'm going to fast forward to put the bumper cover back on. Let's just reverse the procedure. Put in the plates. Lock the sides. Then put some of the clips in. Makes sure you get the lower flaps in front of the wheel. Up and in, then clip it and bolt it in place.
