Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to remove and reinstall the front grille on this 2003 Volkswagen Passat. The only tools you'll need are kind of a medium or regular size and a larger size flat blade screwdriver. Then you'll need a T30 Torx driver.
As you open up the hood, you'll see two T30 Torx screws on the top edges of the grille. Here, I'll just fast-forward as I remove those two bolts. Make sure you don't want to remove this handle. Right in here, I can see there's a little metal clip. Put a screwdriver down in there and pry that clip up.
See it's flipped up there. Take your screwdriver, put it in, and pry the handle cart and pull it off. Okay, I just reached in my screwdriver, pry off one side, pulled, and then pry up to the side and pull right back out.
Now, here on the center, you'll see the little tab. You pry back on that tab and lift your grille straight up. There's one on each side and it should pop out. Sometimes you get on the clips. I'm going to be reaching down in here. Then I'll pry in this last clip out. These clips should just pull right up and out. This one kind of got hang up whole, but I'll just had to go in there in the back side and pry back.
Once you have it in place then you want to put the four T30 bolts that are at the bottom of the grille back in place. Then tighten it up firmly. Now, take the grille, and there are four slots at the bottom. These two tabs here and that's have if its pop. You want to kinda put it into place. Line it up, from the tabs are going in. Tap them, break that in. Again, we'll fast-forward here as we put those two T30 bolts back in the top.
Okay, to reinstall this, what you actually need to do is unbolt your latch mechanism. There are three 10mm bolts here, here, and here. Slide your latch mechanism to move back here. You take your handle, kind of squeeze the bolts just a little bit, and then insert it. Then you can lift up back to here. You need to make sure that clip is up. You'll need a little bit of a larger screwdriver.
Separate the forks. Separate the forks by twisting the screwdriver and then work the handle on there. Then push that fork down and then lock it to place. You can tell it's in place when this moves around. We'll kick in that gear as I rebolt that latch mechanism back on the radiator support.
