Hi, I'm Mike from 1A Auto. I hope this how-to video helps you out, and next time you need parts for your vehicle, think of 1AAuto.com. Thanks.
In this video, we're going to show you how to remove your front speakers on this 2003 Chevy Monte Carlo. We show you on the driver side, but the passenger side is the same procedure. The items you'll need for this is a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a T15 and T25 Torx bit or driver, a putty knife, and a 7mm socket and ratchet.
Your door panel is held on with four screws. There's a Phillips screw here and a Phillips screw up here. Then down here under the pull handle there are two T25 Torx screws. We'll just fast-forward as Mike removes those. Now pry out behind this panel with a flat blade screwdriver, and then slide the panel forward and over the door handle. Then pry out on either side of your door lock switch while pulling up on it. That will pull free. Now there's an indent right here that you want to slide your putty knife into, and then just pry out on the clip. Now reach back behind the door panel and feel for the clips, and pull out sharply to release them. Once you've released them all the way around, just lift the door panel up and then pull it back. Now push the tab on this harness and pull it free. Do the same thing for this harness. Now your door panel's free.
Holding in the plate that your speaker's attached to is three 7mm bolts. Just go ahead and remove those. Now pry out on the back of the plate and pull the plate out. Lift up on this tab and disconnect your harness. Then just pull the plate the rest of the way out. If you want to use this plate you'll need T15 Torx drivers to remove these screws, and then you'll remove the Phillips screw here, and you'll probably have to cut some of those wires. Then this just comes off by prying down on the tab here and out.
If you do use this plate, it's important that you put this adhesive back on. It helps to adhere it to the door and makes the door more of a part of the sound system. Make sure you get the adhesive back into place. Maybe you can use a little bit of glue to re-adhere it down. Reconnect your harness and then just push that plate back into place with those three screws. We'll fast-forward as Mike replaces those screws and tightens them up.
To reconnect your door panel, just start off by reconnecting these two harnesses. Just put this switch through here and then line up these slots with these four tabs. Just lift the door panel up and push those slots onto the tabs. Then make sure the clips are lined up and hit them into place around the sides of the door panel. Now push your door lock switch back into this panel, slide the panel over your interior door handle, and slide it back into place. Then just replace those four screws.
