How To Replace Front Door Check 1992-2000 Honda Civic

step 1 :Removing the Door Panel
- Remove the Phillips screw behind the door handle
- Pull the door handle out
- Disconnect the door handle rod
- Disconnect the lock wiring harness
- Pry off the mirror base trim piece
- Pry off the door pull trim piece
- Remove the Phillips screw beneath the switch panel
- Remove the Phillips screw in the door pull
- Disconnect the door lock wiring harness
- Disconnect the window switch wiring harness
- Pry off the speaker cover with a flat blade screwdriver
- Remove the three Phillips screws surrounding the speaker
- Pry out the door panel with a door panel clip tool or putty knife
- Lift the door panel up and off
- Disconnect the speaker wiring harness

step 2 :Removing the Door Check
- Remove the 12mm bolt from the door check
- Remove the two 10mm bolts from the door check
- Pull the door check down and out

step 3 :Installing the New Door Check
- Insert the door check into place
- Replace the two 10mm bolts to the door check
- Replace the 12mm bolt to the door check

step 4 :Reinstalling the Door Panel
- Connect the speaker harness
- Lift the door panel into place
- Push in the door panel clips
- Insert the three Phillips screws surrounding the speaker
- Replace the Phillips screw beneath the switch panel
- Replace the Phillips screw in the door pull
- Connect the door rod to the door handle
- Connect the lock wiring harness
- Push the door handle into place
- Replace the Phillips screw in the door handle
- Connect the window switch harness to the switch panel
- Connect the lock switch harness to the switch panel
- Push on the speaker cover
- Push on the door pull trim piece
- Push the mirror base trim piece in place

In this video, we show you how to replace a door check on this 1998 Honda Civic and we show you on the driver side, but the passenger side is a similar procedure. The items you'll need for this is a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, and a 10mm and a 12mm socket and ratchet.
Start off by removing this Phillips screw behind the door handle. Now pull your door handle back and out. Right here is your door handle rod. Just push this clip off of it and lift the rod up and out. Now, on this harness, there's a tab underneath it. Just push it in, disconnect it, and remove this triangular panel at the top of your door panel. Pull firmly on this panel and it will pop right off. Now you want to remove this Phillips screw right here as well as this Phillips screw right here. We'll just fast-forward as Don does this.
Now, underneath the switch pack, you'll see these two harnesses, you just want to disconnect them. They each have a tab that you just have to push in on and they pull right out. Now, using a flat blade screwdriver, pry off your speaker cover, and in these holes here you'll see there are three Phillips screws. Just go ahead and remove each of those. Now pull out along the edges of your door panel to release the clips and then lift the door panel up and off the door. Down by your speaker you'll see this harness just push in on the two tabs on the sides and it'll pull right out.
Now on your door check, there's one 12mm bolt right here and two 10mm bolts right here. We'll just fast-forward as Don removes each of those. Once those are removed, you just push your door check into the door and pull it down and out through that hole for the speaker.
Take your new door check and feed it back up into the door. You're going to have to get it around some of those harnesses and pull it back out. Replace that 12mm bolt to hold it into place, and then the two 10mm bolts. We'll just fast-forward as Don tightens all of those up.
Now, to reinstall your door panel, you first just reconnect that speaker harness. Then you just want to make sure your harnesses run through that door there, feed your lock through the door panel, set it back down into the window sill, and then hit around the door panel to reactivate those clips. Reinsert and tighten up those three Phillips screws around the speaker. Replace the two Phillips screws underneath your pull handle. Now put the door rod back into the door handle and reclip it. Plug your harness back into place. Push your door handle back in, slide it back, and replace that Phillips screw. Reconnect your switch pack harnesses. Then put the speaker panel, your door pull panel and that triangular panel back into place.
