In this video we're going to show you how to change the front axle shift actuator on this 2004 Trailblazer. Same as any '02-'09 Trailblazer. Also the same as the GMC Envoy, Buick Ranier, Olds Bravada, Isuzu Ascender, and Saab--the 9X. Only tool you'll need are an 8-mm socket with a ratchet and extension. In this video I do have the vehicle up on a lift, but you really don't need to have anything like that. You can reach it right on the ground.

I'm looking at the passenger side front wheel. I have it turned all the way. We can see right in here, there is our axle actuator. An 8-mm socket with an extension and a ratchet. I'm just going to fast-forward through removing those two 8-mm bolts. You take your actuator out. Your lead, press on the tab right here, it comes apart. Blow out that a little bit. New actuator's on the right. All the same. They plug in the same and everything. Plug it in. Guide it through here to the hole. It's got an O-ring, just press it in a little bit. Set the upper bolt first. The lower bolt, I'm going to put into my extension and guide it in there.

Make sure they go in nice and easy by hand first, so you don't cross thread them. I'm going to use fast-forward again as I tighten these up. You don't want to tighten just one up all at once. You want to snug one and then snug the other one and then tighten them up after that. When you tighten them, you want to give them... they probably should be about 8 to 10 foot-pounds, which is not very tight. Just tighten with the small ratchet and that's about it. Don't over-tighten them. We hope this helps you out.
