Here are the items you'll need for this repair: 10-21mm socket, ratchet, socket extension, ½ breaker bar, torque wrench, flat blade screwdriver, pliers, gloves, rust penetrant, jack and jack stands
Using a 21mm socket and a breaker bar, loosen all of your lug nuts about one turn. Raise and support your vehicle. We're using a lift to make it easier to show you what's going on, but this job can easily be done at home with a jack and jack stands. Remove your lug nuts the rest of the way by hand. Remove your wheel and tire.
Now we've turned the spindle here to make it easier to show you guys what's going on, but you shouldn't have to do this in order to remove the part at home. Your ABS sensor is located here on the back of the spindle secured by this 10 mm nut, which we'll remove with our 10 mm socket and ratchet. Grab the sensor with a pair of pliers. Just wiggle it back and forth a few times to make sure that it's freed up. Since we're replacing it, you can go ahead and pull it out with the pliers too. Now we'll disconnect the harness from its two retainers. We'll remove the electrical connector at the front of the wheel well by pushing down on this spring retainer. I'm using a little flat blade screwdriver to make it easier to reach and disconnecting the connector. You can now remove the sensor and harness from the vehicle.
Here we have our old ABS sensor that we removed from our vehicle and our new part from 1AAuto.com. As you can see these parts are exactly the same. A little hard to tell, but they are the same length just because this one has settled from being in the vehicle for so long. I'll just grab those and show you they're the same real quick. Now the new harness does come with the actual mounting tabs. Ours didn't break off, so we can simply pop them out of there and snap them right back into the ones we left in the car. Your ABS sensor is prone to getting stuck in the hub and can become broken or damaged, as well as having the wire chafed through from an oversized wheel and tire rubbing up against it. If your old ABS sensor has gone bad or broken, this new part from 1A Auto is going to go in direct fit just like your original equipment. We'll fix you up right.
Reinstall the electrical connector until it snaps. Make sure that it's in there nice and secure. Snap these little rubber knobs here on the harness into their connectors. It will be the same as the ones you removed them from. Install the sensor back into the hub. Start your 10mm bolt. We'll then tighten down with our 10mm socket and ratchet. This is just holding the plastic sensor in so you really only have to snug it up. There's no need to get crazy tight with these.
Reinstall your wheel and tire and get your 21mm lug nuts as tight as you can by hand. Lower the partial weight of your vehicle back on to the tires. Torque your lug nuts to 110 foot-pounds in a cross pattern.
